College Football – (10) TCU Visit Texas Tech for Big 12 Battle

Texas Tech Red Raiders at (10) TCU Horned Frogs (-22, 70.5 o/u)

This Saturday, the Red Raiders (3-4, 1-3 Big 12) will travel to Fort Worth for their annual tilt with the Horned Frogs (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) (3:30 p.m. Eastern).

After a complete dismantling of Oklahoma State last weekend, No. 10 ranked TCU is feeling confident. The victory moved the Frogs up two spots in the AP poll. However, TCU head coach Gary Patterson said he’s making sure his team goes week to week and doesn’t look too far ahead.

Said Patterson, “I haven’t thought about it. I didn’t think about it before. We’ve got six games left, and all six are capable of playing very well.”

When asked whether the Frogs are the best team in the Big 12, TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin echoed his coach’s sentiments. “I wouldn’t say that right now. We still have a lot of football left,” said the Junior pivot.

Though the Frogs offense has often looked invincible this season, its defense has been entirely suspect. Two games ago, they gave up more than 500 yards passing to Baylor and blew a 21 point fourth quarter lead. Though the TCU defense did rebound against Oklahoma State, which only passed for 132 yards, they need to be prepared for another shootout in Lubbock. The Red Raiders quarterback, Davis Webb, has his team averaging 330 yards passing per game, and running back DeAndre Washington ran for 164 yards last weekend in 34-21 a win over Kansas.

The win against Kansas ended a four-game losing streak for Texas Tech.

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said that, if the passing game continues to put up big numbers, he will keep going back to the well. “If that’s what we’re having success at, we’ll keep doing it. At the end of the day, we’ve got to be able to throw it and win on the outside with our receivers and that is something that’s still coming along,” said Kingsbury.

Despite the fact that both squads have the ability to put up big numbers from their respective offenses, taking Texas Tech and the points is the better play.
