Dallas Mavericks at Portland Trail Blazers (-2.5, 198.5 o/u)

Two legitimate Western Conference contenders will square off tonight as the Dallas Mavericks (40-22, 19-12 away) visit the Portland Trail Blazers (40-19, 25-6 home)at the Moda Center (10:30 p.m. Eastern).

The Mavs put an end to their two-game losing streak on Monday, downing the New Orleans Pelicans 102-93. The win moved Dallas into a tie with the Clippers for fifth in the West (and four games back of Memphis for top spot in the Southwest Division).

The Blazers come into tonight on a four-game win streak, including back-to-back road Ws over the Kings (on Sunday) and Clippers (yesterday). In last night’s 98-93 OT win over L.A., power forward LaMarcus Aldridge had 29 points and nine rebounds, though he shot just 12/30 from the field.

The poor shooting performance was the latest in a string for Portland’s leading scorer. But the Blazers held the Clippers to 38.5-percent shooting to emerge with a big road win.

Aldridge will be hoping for better tonight as the Blazers fave the Mavs for the third time this season. The teams  split the first two meetings, with Dallas taking the most recent 111-101 in OT back in February.  Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas that night, scoring 25 points, which and Chandler Parsons added 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

“They hung in there and basically pitched a shutout in the last two minutes to get to overtime and then we got some momentum,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said after the win. “That was a hard game, and that’s a heavyweight team in the West.”

Parsons has missed the last five games with an ankle injury, but could return to the lineup tonight.

Looking at the broader trends, the Mavericks have beaten the Portland (both SU and ATS) in seven of the last ten head-to-head. They are also 3-2 SU and ATS in the last five at the Moda Center.

Portland is currently a 2.5-point favorite for tonight’s game.
