The ultimate prize in American Sports will be in dispute this Sunday February 2nd as the Seattle Seahawks, representing the NFC and the Denver Broncos, representing the AFC, clash at Metlife Stadium, in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Broncos are currently 2 point favorites in the Super Bowl betting spread; the lines opened as pick’em, then moved to Denver by 2.5.  The game total is at 46.5.

The Seahawks ended with a 13-3 record that led to be at home for the entire postseason where they beta the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers.  Seattle was 11-5 ATS in the regular season and 1-1 ATS in the postseason.

Pete Carroll’s team has the best defense in the NFL, allowing 14.4 points per game, and they recorded the most takeaway by a defensive unit with 39.

However, the team will go as far as Russell Wilson takes them.  Wilson has had a quiet postseason with just 318 passing yards and one touchdown; he might have to go head to head against Peyton Manning, matching the Broncos point per point on offense.

“Sure, I noticed he was short,” TE Zach Miller said about Wilson. “But he won me over so quickly. The first thing I noticed was that he’s a playmaker. He was making these throws where I would think, Wow. This guy’s got it. And he just wants to win so badly. You love playing with a guy like that. He makes you better.”

Peyton Manning is the star of the game, of course; after throwing 55 TDs in the season and four more in the postseason, he looks better than ever.

The Broncos as a team scored 606 points this season, most in NFL history; however, Denver  is the 8th team to break NFL scoring record during the regular season, according to ESPN stats none of previous seven went on to win Super Bowl.

“When you give people 18 hours a day to think of stuff, this is what we do,” coach John Fox said. “We are very blessed. (Manning) is very sharp. He’s done it a very long time in his career, and he is as good — I am not going to say he is the best — but he is as good that I have ever been around of doing it.”

The weather will play a factor; forecasts expect temperatures between the 20’s and 30’s in New York.  Keep in mind Peyton Manning is 8-11 in games where the temperature is below 40 degrees. Manning is also 1-1 Super Bowls with 2 TDs and 2 INTs.

Seattle is 3-12 SU in its last 15 games when playing Denver and 3-6 ATS in its last 9 games; however, they haven’t met since 2010.

The NFC has covered five of the last six Super Bowls; their only loss came in last year’s Super Bowl as the Ravens beat the 49ers in a thrilling matchup. Also, the National Conference has a 25-22 edge over the AFC straight up in the first 47 Super Bowl matchups.

Best Bet: Seahawks +2.
