Matchup Overview

Don’t expect a nail biter on Wednesday, March 20 at Quicken Loans Arena as the Bucks opened as 9.5 point favorites against the Cavaliers. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.

That’s what happens when one of the NBA’s best defensive teams tangles with one of the league’s worst offensive teams.

The Bucks have been doing an outstanding job of shutting down opponents in 2018-19. They’re ninth in fewest points allowed at 108.5 points per contest, and are holding teams to 49.0% from the floor and 36.0% from beyond the arc. Milwaukee grits out13 turnovers per game and is first in the league in rebounding at 49.4 per night.

Milwaukee’s defense has been nearly as good as Cleveland’s offense has been bad. The Cavaliers have the NBA’s 24th-best offensive rating, and are averaging just 104.3 points per games on 42.0% shooting. Cleveland is 26th in rebounds and 29th in assists. They’ll need to be far more efficient tonight to have any shot of pulling out a win.

These two teams have faced one another two times this season, with the Bucks winning on two occasions. The last time they clashed on December 15th, 2018, Milwaukee won 114- 102 behind 44 points from Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Bucks are fresh off a 115-101 win against the Lakers in Milwaukee in which they dished out 25 assists and came up with nine swipes. Khris Middleton led the way with 30 points. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, are coming off of a 119-126 win vs the Pistons in Detroit in which they shot 11 for 22 from deep were out-rebounded 55-39.

All told, the Bucks have won six of their last ten games and are first in the Eastern Conference, while the Cavaliers have have come out on the losing end of six of their last ten and are 14th in the Eastern Conference.

The 9.5-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Sportsbooks have also set a generous over/under total of 227. Bear in mind that Milwaukee is 42-26-3 against the spread this season and 35-36-0 over/under, compared to 33-36-2 ATS and 38-33-0 over/under for Cleveland.
