Online sportsbooks have made it clear we shouldn’t expect a tight game on Friday, March 15 at Staples Center as the Clippers opened as 8.5 point favorites versus the Bulls. Tip off is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. EST.
Chicago comes into this game with the NBA’s 26th-ranked defensive rating. They’re giving up 112.8 points per contest and are 23rd in field goals allowed and 27th in three-pointers allowed. Offensively, they’re averaging 105.0 points and are 26th in rebounds and 27th in assists.
Many of their most memorable moments have been courtesy of Zach LaVine, who is putting up 23.8 points per contest on 45.0% shooting.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, has the NBA’s 12th-ranked offensive rating. The Clippers are averaging 114.4 points per game on 45.0% shooting and are 13th in rebounds and 21st in assists.
Most of the heavy lifting has been done by Lou Williams, who is chipping in 20.4 points per game. The Bulls will have their hands full with him.
The Clippers are giving up 113.6 points per game at the other end of the court and are 28th in field goals allowed and sixth in three-pointers allowed. Opponents are shooting 45.0% from the floor and 34.0% from beyond the arc against them in 2018-19.
These two teams have already met once this season. The last time they played on January 26th, 2019, Los Angeles won 106-101 behind 31 points from Lou Williams.
The Clippers are hot on the heels of a 125-104 loss against the Trail Blazers in Portland in which they were 9 for 15 from deep and won the war on the glass 62-59. The Bulls, meanwhile, are fresh off a 107-123 loss against the Lakers in Chicago in which they handed out 23 assists and scratched and clawed their way to six swipes. Robin Lopez torched the Lakers for 20 points.
All told, the Bulls have won four of their last ten games and are 13th in the Eastern Conference, while the Clippers have lost three of their last ten and are eighth in the Western Conference.
The 8.5-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Sportsbooks have also set a high over/under total of 229. Bear in mind that Chicago is 30-38-1 against the spread this year and 33-36-0 over/under, compared to 40-29-0 ATS and 36-33-0 over/under for Los Angeles.
