Sparks will fly tonight as the Pelicans (13-13, 10-3 home) host the Grizzlies (14-9, 6-6 away) at 8:00 p.m. EST at Smoothie King Center.
This is the first time in 2018-19 these two clubs have met, but there’s plenty of history between them… and very little love lost.
The Pelicans opened as 5.5-point favorites for this contest, with a projected point total of 218. That’s a sizeable point spread, so proceed with caution if you’re thinking of wagering on the Pelicans. Memphis is 14-9-0 against the spread this season and 10-13-0 over/under. New Orleans, meanwhile, is 12-14-0 ATS and 16-10-0 over/under.
Memphis enters the game ranked fourth in the league in defensive rating. They’re surrendering 102.3 points per game and are holding opponents to 47.0% from the field and 36.0% from deep. Offensively, they’re averaging 104.0 points and are 30th in rebounds and 19th in assists.
On the flip side, New Orleans ranks fourth in offensive rating. The Pelicans are averaging 118.7 points per game on 45.0% shooting and are fifth in rebounds and third in assists. Defensively, they’re giving up 116.3 points per game and are 10th in field goals allowed and 20th in three-pointers allowed.
Both teams have been busy lately. The Pelicans are coming off of a 106-132 win against the Mavericks in Dallas in which they were 17 for 29 from deep and won the war on the glass 54-53.
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are fresh off a 96-86 win versus the Clippers in Memphis in which they dished out 18 assists and had nine swipes. Mike Conley torched the Clippers for 22 points.
All told, the Grizzlies have won six of their previous ten games and are sixth in the Western Conference, while the Pelicans have lost six of their last ten and are 11th in the Western Conference.
