Online sportsbooks have made it clear we shouldn’t expect a tight game tonight at Pepsi Center as the Nuggets opened as 10.0 point favorites versus the Heat. Tip off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST.
Miami comes into this game with the NBA’s eighth-ranked defensive rating. They’re giving up 105.8 points per game and are fourth in field goals allowed and 13th in three-pointers allowed. Offensively, they’re averaging 105.3 points and are seventh in rebounds and 18th in assists.
They’ve received big contributions this season from Josh Richardson, who is putting up 17.8 points per contest on 41.0% shooting.
On the flip side, Denver has the Association’s 2nd-ranked offensive rating. The Nuggets are averaging 112.0 points per game on 44.0% shooting and are ninth in rebounds and second in assists.
They’ve been paced this season by Nikola Jokic, who is leading the Nuggets with 20.4 points per game on 47.0% shooting, and Jamal Murray, who is chipping in 18.6 points per game. The Heat will have their hands full with both players tonight.
The Nuggets are giving up 107.3 points per game at the other end of the court and are 16th in field goals allowed and 10th in three-pointers surrendered. They’re letting opponents shoot 46.0% from the floor and 35.0% from beyond the arc.
These two teams have already met once this season. The last time they played on January 9th, 2019, Denver won 103-99 behind 29 points from Nikola Jokic.
The Heat are fresh off a 118-120 loss against the Warriors in Golden State in which they dished out 32 dimes and came up with six steals. Josh Richardson torched the Warriors for 37 points. The Nuggets, meanwhile, are hot on the heels of a 117-110 loss vs the 76ers in Philadelphia in which they shot 6 for 26 from deep were out-rebounded 46-45.
Overall, the Heat have won three of their last ten games and are ninth in the Eastern Conference, while the Nuggets have dropped four of their previous ten and are second in the Western Conference.
The 10.0-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Sportsbooks have also set an over/under total of 213. Keep in mind that Miami is 28-26-0 against the spread this season and 27-27-0 over/under, compared to 29-26-0 ATS and 28-27-0 over/under for Denver.
