Don’t expect a nail biter on Monday, March 18 at Scotiabank Arena as the Raptors opened as 13.5 point favorites versus the Knicks. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.
That’s what happens when one of the NBA’s best defensive teams tangles with one of the league’s worst offensive teams.
The Raptors have been doing an outstanding job of shutting down opponents this season. They rank 10th in fewest points allowed at 108.8 points per game, and are limiting opposing teams to 45.0% from the field and 35.0% from downtown.
Toronto uses its speed and athleticism to force 15.2 turnovers per game, and is 17th in the league in rebounding. Add it all up and you have a team that can thrive even when its offense falls flat.
Speaking of faltering offenses, the Knicks are generating 105.3 points on 41.0% shooting from the floor and 34.0% from deep. They rank 20th in rebounds and 30th in dimes. They’ll need to be far sharper tonight to have any shot of earning a victory.
These two clubs have met two times in 2018-19, with the Knicks failing to pick up a win. The last time they faced off on February 10th, 2019, Toronto won 104- 99 behind 22 points from Kyle Lowry.
The Knicks are fresh off a 124-123 win versus the Lakers in New York in which they handed out 24 assists and scratched and clawed their way to four swipes. Emmanuel Mudiay torched the Lakers for 28 points. The Raptors, meanwhile, are coming off of a 110-107 loss vs the Pistons in Detroit in which they were 18 for 36 from deep were out-rebounded 51-50.
All told, the Knicks have won two of their last ten games and are 15th in the Eastern Conference, while the Raptors have have come out on the losing end of five of their previous ten and are second in the Eastern Conference.
The 13.5-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Bookmakers have also set a generous over/under total of 216. Bear in mind that New York is 29-40-1 against the spread this year and 32-38-0 over/under, compared to 30-40-0 ATS and 39-31-0 over/under for Toronto.
