Matchup Overview

Don’t expect a nail biter on Wednesday, March 27 at Vivint Smart Home Arena as the Jazz opened as 15.0 point favorites against the Lakers. Tip off is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. EST.

That’s what happens when one of the NBA’s best defensive teams tangles with one of the league’s worst offensive teams.

The Jazz have been doing an outstanding job of making life miserable for opponents this year. They rank fourth in fewest points allowed at 106.0 points per game, and are holding opposing teams to 45.0% from the field and 36.0% from deep.

Utah uses its speed and athleticism to force 14.1 turnovers per game, and is eighth in the league in rebounding. Add it all up and you have a squad that can flourish even when its offense wavers.

Speaking of faltering offenses, the Lakers are generating 111.8 points on 44.0% shooting from the floor and 33.0% from beyond the arc. They rank seventh in rebounds and 12th in assists. They’ll need to be far more efficient tonight to have any chance of pulling out a win.

These two clubs have faced one another two times this season, with the Lakers winning once. The last time they played on January 12th, 2019, Utah won 113- 95 behind 33 points from Donovan Mitchell.

The Lakers are fresh off a 124-106 win against the Wizards in Los Angeles in which they handed out 37 assists and scratched and clawed their way to nine swipes. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the way with 29 points. The Jazz, meanwhile, are coming off of a 92-125 win vs the Suns in Phoenix in which they shot 10 for 21 from deep and won the war on the glass 49-43.

Overall, the Lakers have won three of their last ten games and are 11th in the Western Conference, while the Jazz have have come out on the losing end of three of their previous ten and are sixth in the Western Conference.

The 15.0-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Bookmakers have also set a robust over/under total of 217. Keep in mind that Los Angeles is 29-43-2 against the spread this year and 29-45-0 over/under, compared to 40-32-2 ATS and 36-38-0 over/under for Utah.
