Don’t expect a nail biter on Friday, March 15 at Little Caesars Arena as the Pistons opened as 11.0 point favorites against the Lakers. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
Los Angeles enters this game with the NBA’s 15th-ranked defensive rating. They’re giving up 113.9 points per game and are 24th in field goals allowed and 19th in three-pointers allowed. Offensively, they’re averaging 112.0 points and are seventh in rebounds and 12th in assists.
They’ve received big contributions this season from LeBron James, who is putting up 27.4 points per contest on 48.0% shooting.
On the flip side, Detroit has the NBA’s 21st-ranked offensive rating. The Pistons are averaging 107.2 points per game on 41.0% shooting and are 16th in rebounds and 26th in assists.
They’ve been paced this year by Blake Griffin, who is leading the Pistons with 24.9 points per game on 44.0% shooting, and Andre Drummond, who is chipping in 17.3 points per game. The Lakers will have to work hard to limit both players tonight.
The Pistons are giving up 107.8 points per game at the other end of the court and are third in field goals allowed and second in three-pointers allowed. Opponents are shooting 47.0% from the floor and 34.0% from downtown against them in 2018-19.
These two teams have already met once this season. The last time they played on January 10th, 2019, Los Angeles won 113-100 behind 41 points from Kyle Kuzma.
The Lakers are fresh off a 98-111 loss versus the Raptors in Toronto in which they dished out 24 dimes and had 11 steals. LeBron James torched the Raptors for 29 points. The Pistons, meanwhile, are hot on the heels of a 108-74 loss against the Heat in Miami in which they shot 8 for 37 from deep were out-rebounded 57-49.
All told, the Lakers have won two of their last ten games and are 11th in the Western Conference, while the Pistons have lost three of their last ten and are seventh in the Eastern Conference.
The 11.0-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Sportsbooks have also set a big over/under total of 218. Bear in mind that Los Angeles is 27-39-2 against the spread this year and 28-40-0 over/under, compared to 33-32-2 ATS and 32-35-0 over/under for Detroit.
