Don’t expect a tight game on Friday, March 22 at Madison Square Garden as the Nuggets opened as 11.0 point favorites versus the Knicks. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.
That’s what happens when two of the Association’s sloppiest defensive teams tangle.
The Knicks have made things far too easy for opposing teams this season. They rank 25th in most points allowed at 114.3 points per game, and are allowing opponents to shoot 47.0% from the field and 36.0% from beyond the arc. New York forces 13.6 turnovers per game, and is 20th in the NBA in rebounding. Their defensive indifference could be their downfall.
The same can be said of the Nuggets, who rank sixth in most points allowed at 107.0 points per game, and are letting opponents hit 47.0% of their field goals and 34.0% of their three-pointers. Denver is sixth in the NBA in rebounding at 46.6 boards per night. They’ll need to do far better tonight to give themselves a fighting chance.
These two teams have already met once this season. The last time they played on January 2nd, 2019, Denver won 115-108 behind 23 points from Malik Beasley.
The Nuggets are fresh off a 114-105 win against the Celtics in Boston in which they dished out 29 assists and had six steals. Nikola Jokic led the way with 21 points. The Knicks, meanwhile, are coming off of a 137-116 loss vs the Jazz in Utah in which they were 13 for 31 from deep and won the war on the glass 46-44.
All told, the Nuggets have won six of their last ten games and are second in the Western Conference, while the Knicks have dropped nine of their previous ten and are 15th in the Eastern Conference.
The 11.0-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Sportsbooks have also set a big over/under total of 216. Keep in mind that Denver is 37-32-0 against the spread this season and 30-39-0 over/under, compared to 29-42-1 ATS and 34-38-0 over/under for New York.
