Don’t expect a tight game tonight at Talking Stick Resort Arena as the Nuggets opened as 10.0 point favorites against the Suns. Tip off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST.
That’s what happens when one of the NBA’s best defensive teams tangles with one of the league’s worst offensive teams.
The Nuggets have been doing an outstanding job of making life miserable for opponents in 2018-19. They rank fourth in fewest points allowed at 105.4 points per game, and are limiting teams to 48.0% from the floor and 33.0% from beyond the arc. Denver uses its size and length to force 14 turnovers per game and is fifth in the NBA in rebounding at 47.3 per contest.
Denver’s defense has been nearly as good as Phoenix’s offense has been bad. The Suns have the league’s 26th-best offensive rating, and are averaging just 106.2 points per games on 43.0% shooting. Phoenix is 29th in rebounds and 17th in assists. They’ll need to be far sharper tonight to have any chance of pulling out a win.
These two teams have met two times this season, with the Nuggets winning on two occasions. The last time they faced off on December 30th, 2018, Denver won 122- 118 behind 46 points from Jamal Murray.
The Suns are coming off of a 104-94 loss vs the Mavericks in Dallas in which they shot 7 for 25 from deep were out-rebounded 57-50. The Nuggets, meanwhile, are fresh off a 121-100 win vs the Clippers in Denver in which they handed out 29 assists and scratched and clawed their way to seven swipes. Jamal Murray led the way with 23 points.
Overall, the Nuggets have won seven of their last ten games and are first in the Western Conference, while the Suns have lost eight of their last ten and are 15th in the Western Conference.
The 10.0-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Sportsbooks have also set a high over/under total of 220. Bear in mind that Denver is 23-17-0 against the spread this year and 18-22-0 over/under, compared to 19-24-0 ATS and 19-24-0 over/under for Phoenix.
