Few teams could use a victory more right now than the Hawks (24-47, 13-21 home), who have had their many flaws exposed lately in a series of losses. Fortunately, they’ll have a chance to right the ship as they take on the Rockets (44-26, 18-16 away) on Tuesday, March 19 at State Farm Arena. Tip off time is 7:30 p.m. EST.
Atlanta has dropped six of its last ten games and has been beset by poor production on the offensive end. The Hawks are averaging 112.5 points per game, but they’ve been woefully inefficient. They rank 24th in offensive rating, and are 12th in rebounds and ninth in assists.
They’ll be tested from start to finish as they face Houston. The Rockets have pulled out wins in nine of their previous ten games and are third in the Western Conference. Houston is averaging 112.9 points and the Rockets are 28th in rebounds and 28th in assists. They’ve been paced this season by James Harden, who is putting up 35.9 points per game on 41.0% shooting.
These two teams have already met once this season. The last time they played on February 26th, 2019, Houston won 119-111 behind 28 points from James Harden.
The Rockets are fresh off a 117-102 win against the Timberwolves in Houston in which they shot 21-50 from the three-point line. Chris Paul led the team with 25 points. The Hawks, meanwhile, are coming off of a 101-91 loss against the Magic in Orlando in which they handed out 20 assists and pulled down 53 boards.
The Rockets are 7.5-point favorites, with a projected game total of 233. That’s a generous point spread, so proceed with caution if you’re thinking of wagering on the Rockets. Bear in mind that Houston is 32-36-2 against the spread this season and 36-34-0 over/under. Atlanta, on the other hand, is 35-36-0 ATS and 40-31-0 over/under.
