Online sportsbooks have made it clear we shouldn’t expect a tight game on Monday, March 25 at Vivint Smart Home Arena as the Jazz opened as 15.0 point favorites versus the Suns. Tip off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST.
That’s what happens when one of the NBA’s best defensive teams tangles with one of the league’s worst offensive teams.
The Jazz have been doing an outstanding job of making life miserable for opponents in 2018-19. They rank fourth in fewest points allowed at 106.2 points per game, and are limiting opposing teams to 45.0% from the field and 36.0% from deep.
Utah uses its size and length to force 14.0 turnovers per game, and is seventh in the NBA in rebounding. Add it all up and you have a squad that can flourish even when its offense wavers.
Speaking of faltering offenses, the Suns are generating 106.9 points on 42.0% shooting from the floor and 33.0% from downtown. They rank 30th in rebounds and 18th in assists. They’ll need to be far more efficient tonight to have any chance of earning a victory.
These two clubs have faced one another two times in 2018-19, with the Suns failing to pick up a win. The last time they faced off on March 14th, 2019, Utah won 114- 97 behind 26 points from Donovan Mitchell.
The Jazz are coming off of an 83-114 win against the Bulls in Chicago in which they shot 11 for 32 from deep and won the war on the glass 63-54. The Suns, meanwhile, are fresh off a 103-112 loss vs the Kings in Sacramento in which they dished out 25 assists and scratched and clawed their way to 10 steals. Devin Booker torched the Kings for 32 points.
All told, the Suns have won four of their previous ten games and are 15th in the Western Conference, while the Jazz have have come out on the losing end of three of their previous ten and are seventh in the Western Conference.
The 15.0-point spread isn’t the only angle you can take advantage of. Bookmakers have also set a big over/under total of 218. Keep in mind that Phoenix is 34-40-0 against the spread this season and 31-43-0 over/under, compared to 39-32-2 ATS and 35-38-0 over/under for Utah.
