Two of the league’s hottest offenses clash on Saturday, March 16 as the Trail Blazers (41-26, 16-17 away) and Spurs (39-29, 26-7 home) try to outscore one another in San Antonio. Tip off time for this old-fashioned shoot-out is 8:30 p.m. EST at AT&T Center.
Both teams have been creating plenty of buzz – and plenty of points – this year with their fast-paced offenses. San Antonio is generating 112.0 points on 46.0 shooting from the floor and 40.0% from downtown. They’re 22nd in rebounds and 16th in assists. The Spurs have been led this year by DeMar DeRozan, who is averaging 21.7 points per game on 46.0% shooting.
The Trail Blazers have been filling up the score sheet as well. Portland is generating 114.0 points on 44.0% shooting from the floor and 36.0% from downtown. They’re third in rebounds and 24th in assists. The Trail Blazers owe much of their success this season to Damian Lillard, who is scoring 26.0 points per contest.
If Portland’s offense falters, they’ll have to rely on their D to keep them in the game. The Trail Blazers are giving up 110.5 points per game, and are limiting opponents to 47.0% from the field and 36.0% from beyond the arc. Portland grits out 13 turnovers per game and is third in the league in rebounding.
These two teams have tangled three times in 2018-19, with the Trail Blazers winning on two occasions. The last time they played on February 8th, 2019, Portland won 127- 118 behind 30 points from CJ McCollum.
Sportsbooks are believers in these high-powered offenses, as they’ve set the game total at a healthy 228, with the Spurs opening as 1.0-point favorites. Portland is 38-29-0 against the spread this season and 37-30-0 over/under, compared to 37-30-1 ATS and 40-28-0 over/under for San Antonio.
