Despite surprisingly getting to the National Championship game last season, the Auburn Tigers are not favorites to win the SEC or get back to the big game on back to back years. The Tigers are +900 to win 2014/2015 College Football Championship.

The Tigers don’t know when the QB Nick Marshall will play this season after he received a citation for marijuana possession.

“Nick made a mistake, and he’ll have to deal with the consequences,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “I’m not ready to say what those consequences are at this time, but he will deal with it.”

Marshall threw 1976 yards, 14 TDs and 6 INTs last season.

“It is a privilege and a reward to represent Auburn here at the SEC Media Days,” Malzahn added. “Last Friday Nick lost that privilege.

“We have high expectations for our players, but specifically our quarterback, being the face of our program. Up until last Friday, Nick has been a model student, teammate, and citizen. I know he’s regretful, and he feels very bad about it.”

Marshall is +1400 to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy, but QB Jeremy Johnson will play the time Marshall is suspended.

“He’s got a lot of talent, and he’s a good one,” Malzahn said. “He could start for a lot of people.  That’s the main thing. He has a strong arm, but we worked hard on his feet and his balance.”

Auburn’s best shot is maintaining the best rushing attack in the nation, which recorded 328.8 yards on average last season, scoring 39.5 points per game, 13th best in the country. However, Tre Mason, a Heisman Trophy candidate from last season will be hard to replace for the offense.

The Tigers are listed +400 to win the SEC Conference, only the Alabama Crimson Tide have better College Future odds at this point.

On defense, defensive end, Carl Lawson, underwent surgery for an ACL tear in his left knee in May, and they expect him to be back on the last stretch of the year.

“Carl had successful ACL surgery in the first part of May. He injured the knee the last week of spring practice,” Malzahn said. “Carl is working extremely hard and he’s determined to come back towards the end of this year.”
