Among the new online sportsbooks to enter the Ontario fray is industry giant PointsBet, perhaps best known for its innovative “PointsBetting” option (more on this below).

One of the first things new PointsBet Ontario customers are likely to notice is the “PointsBetting” options for most major sports. The next section explains the concept of PointsBetting to the uninitiated.

What Is “PointsBetting” at PointsBet Ontario?

“PointsBetting” is PointsBet’s unique way to wager on sports. It’s a high-risk, high-reward system that rewards bettors for being more correct (and punishes bettors for being way off).

The easiest way to describe PointsBetting is thus: if you bet on a team to cover as a two-point favorite and they wind up winning by 20, you win more money than if they won by three. Conversely, if they lose by 20, you lose more than if they lost by three.

The clip below explains the concept of “PointsBetting” in more detail.

Why Sign-Up at PointsBet Ontario?

While “PointsBetting” is arguably PointsBet’s best-known feature, in reality, PointsBet is a full-service sportsbook that caters to all types of bettors.

PointsBet offers competitive odds on a vast array of sports markets and offers standard fixed-odds wagering on all sports. (PointsBet uses the term “fixed-odds” to differentiate from PointsBetting wagers.)

Their A-to-Z betting menu includes over 20 different sports at the moment, and has been specifically curated for its new Canadian clientele. It already includes both curling and CFL betting options.

There is also a wide variety of eSports and entertainment betting at the site, for anyone looking to eschew the usual sports-betting options.

A few markets that will be of special importance to Ontario bettors right now are the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and Toronto FC.

PointsBet currently lists the Leafs as a +1000 bet to win the Stanley Cup, which compares favourably to the odds available at DraftKings (+900).

While they don’t have the best prices available for the Blue Jays’ futures (+140 to win the AL East and +700 to win the World Series), there are long odds for the Jays’ stars in the MLB award futures. Kevin Gausman (3-1, 2.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) is listed at +700 to in the AL Cy Young odds, compared to +650 at FanDuel. Vlad Guerrero Jr is +450 in the AL MVP odds.

No matter what sport and/or team you’re interested in, PointsBet has the depth and breadth to satisfy the vast majority of Ontario sports bettors.
