Last season the Georgia Bulldogs (8-5, 5-3 SEC) were dealt one injury after another. Now Georgia head coach Mark Richt is hopeful that his seasoned team can compete in the SEC Eastern Division with veteran quarterback Hutson Mason.

Said Richt, “Hutson has been in our system obviously going into his fifth year. But there’s been no change in our system. He has the blessing of being with Coach (Mike) Bobo the entire time, being in the same system the entire time, seeing Murray doing it and having a chance to start a few games last year as well. I think we’ll transition well.”

Overall, the Bulldogs have 15 returning starters. Mason takes over for the SEC great Aaron Murray. In fact, after Murray went down last season the fifth-year player found some valuable experience. This season he’ll have the talented Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall running the ball.

Georgia’s strength on paper going into the season is its defense, with nine returning starters. Linebackers Ramik Wilson and Amarlo Hererra are joined by defense end Ray Drew.

Invariably, if Georgia can run the table, which is a big “if,” Richt will have his squad in position to take part in the first ever College Football Playoff.
