In what could be a preview of an October playoff match-up, the Los Angeles Dodgers (55-45) visit the Pittsburgh Pirates (52-46) for a three-game series at PNC Park, where the home team is an amazing 12-2 since mid-June.

Former Dodger Edinson Volquez (8-6, 3.65) takes on his old team. More importantly, his last home outing was his second career complete game, holding the Cardinals to six hits. Furthermore, Volquez has gone at least six innings in three of his last four PNC Park starts, posting a .90 ERA.

Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle said, “When he gets past the fifth, he smells the finish. It isn’t like he’s looking to give you five or six.”

As far as the Dodgers, Hyun-jin Ryu (10-5, 3.44) is starting. Prior to his last road start, he was 6-1 with a 1.62 ERA.

Ryu said, “I feel very proud about [having ten wins]. My ERA, I’m very unsatisfied with that number, and in the second half of the season I’m focused on lowering that.”

The other storyline regarding the Dodgers is Yasiel Puig, who was hit in the hand by a pitch on Saturday.

Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said, “It’s still sore and I think a little bit swollen. Obviously we’re going to be cautious at this point.”

As far as being cautious, the run line in tonight’s game is in play. The Dodgers are 8-4 on the road, while the Pirates are 14-24 at home.
