When it comes to horror movies, 2015 will be a tough year to beat. The next 12 months, however, will see a new batch of freaky flicks with the potential to slash their way into the hearts of moviegoers.

Zombies have infected every aspect of pop culture, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will continue the trend. This gruesome mashup takes Jane Austin’s classic novel and inserts a zombie apocalypse. While ridiculous in theory, in practice, it’s absolutely brilliant. It has all the makings of a box office hit: a love story, fast-paced action, and a die-hard fanbase. It will be love at first bite.

Several horror franchises will be making their return in 2016, including Underworld: Next Generation, Leatherface and Amityville: The Awakening. Also slated for release is The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, which follows the Warrens on yet another haunting. Sequels have a tendency to suck but, if previous box office numbers were any indication, we can expect fans to show up anyway.

J-horror fans have lots to be excited about this year. After a ten-year hiatus, The Ring series is back with its third chapter: Rings. Director F. Javier Gutierrez will have his work cut out for him, however, as most kids nowadays have never seen a VCR.

Another Japanese import hoping to capitalize this year is The Forest. This nail-biter of a movie takes place in Aokigahara Forest, a real-life location at the base of Mount Fuji where thousands have committed suicide. The film stars Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer in her first leading role.

[Out of Singapore comes The Faith of Anna Waters (known as The Offering in the US), starring Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Rice. Rice spends 95 minutes battling an ancient demon that’s learned how to use modern technology! Sound ridiculous? It is and it’s getting horrible reviews, rating just 4/10 on IMDb.]

Last but not least, we have The Witch, arguably one of the scariest films of the year. A huge hit at Sundance, this colonial-set thriller will have you leaving the theater noticeably shaken.

Which horror movie will rule the box office in 2016? Last year we correctly predicted a couple of the highest grossing horror movies. Let’s see if we can do even better this year!

Here are the odds to be the top grossing horror movie of 2016.
