The Slight Favorites

Atlanta FaZe enter the Call of Duty Championship as the number 1 seed. They were without a doubt one of the most consistent teams and because of that they led the league in points, match wins and game wins. It’s a very talented team but the main concern is their inability to finish at times. Atlanta FaZe were in the finals of five of the eight Home Stands that they competed in. However, they only won two of those, which included a shocking loss to the Toronto Ultra in the last event before the Championship.

There was a long layoff between the end of the regular season and the start of the CDL Playoffs so teams will have a lot of time to draw up a fresh game-plan. As far as the odds go, +180 isn’t enough value for me, considering that Atlanta is far from a sure thing.

The Huntsmen or the Empire

The Chicago Huntsmen and the Dallas Empire have also been in the discussion for the best team in the league.  The Huntsmen started the season incredibly strong but down the stretch they really struggled. In two of their last three events they finished fifth, which is a huge disappointment for a team of their caliber.

The Empire were much more reliable in the final weeks. They picked up a win at the London Home Series — however, that was their only finals appearance in their last four events. All three of the favorites have shown an ability to have a letdown performance. The Call of Duty League has seen different teams rise to the top each and every week which makes predicting a winner at the CDL Championship very difficult.

An Ultra Underdog

The team that saw the most improvement over the course of the Call of Duty League was probably the Toronto Ultra. They only made the finals of a Home Series once, but that was in the final week of the regular season. Not only did they show they were able to win an event, they also have multiple wins over the Atlanta FaZe.

At +1600, the Ultra are actually worth considering. Still, I’d expect one of the more proven teams such as the Chicago Huntsmen to show up in a big way. The Florida Mutineers should also be in contention as they’ve won three events over the course of the CDL.

With the odds listed, I’d stay away from Atlanta and Dallas and hope that some upsets occur. The League has been filled with upsets up to this point so there’s no reason to think that won’t continue in the playoffs.

Pick: Chicago Huntsmen (+600)
