  • The GG.Bet ICE Challenge is into the playoff rounds in London
  • The two tournament favorites wait in the semifinals without a blemish on their record
  • Best sleeper picks to claim the $125,000 prize

The GG.Bet Ice Challenge already has its first few days in the books, and thus far has played out more or less how anyone could have predicted. The red hot mousesports leading the way in Group A, and the new look Na’vi also sitting with a perfect record in Group B. Since both teams went undefeated during the group stage portion of the tournament, they each have booked a bye to the semifinals.

With the quarterfinals starting Tuesday, it’s the perfect time to take a look at who offers the best bet to walk away with the title and the $125,000 prize for first place. Is it only a two-horse race in London? Or are there some teams worth taking a look at further down in the odds table?

Only Two Teams Worth a Look in London?

To really no one’s surprise, both mousesports and Na’vi came out of their respective groups unscathed with a perfect 2-0 record, and in turn got themselves a day off and a spot in the semifinals. Both rosters are playing in their first tournament of the year at the GG.Bet ICE Challenge and each offer their own interesting storyline.

mousesports was nearly unstoppable in the back half of 2019, winning three straight tournaments and placing second in the fourth to close out the year. They without a doubt lived up to the expectations that were formed when the roster was assembled, it just took a bit of time. Now the number two team in the world looks primed to make a run at year another title in early 2020.

Na’vi, on the other hand, are coming into 2020 having subbed out Counterstrike legend, guardian, in favor of the relatively unknown, perfecto. The young CIS talent found success on Syman Gaming, who were able to reach the Berlin major last year, but hasn’t really had the most experience at tier-1 events, so it will be interesting to see if he is able to consistently hang with the big dogs of CS.

Dark Horses in England

There are two teams that managed to qualify for the playoffs at the GG.Bet ICE Challenge that offer a real chance of coming out with the win, and they are Godsent and OG.

Godsent is a team that’s been assembled of castoffs from other random European teams that have banded together to prove that they are capable of playing at the highest level. They certainly have experience, with multiple major performances under their belt, so they aren’t new to the tier-1 scene of Counterstrike by any means. Though I think it’s not the most likely they outright win, Godsent, could certainly cause problems in the later rounds of the GG.Bet ICE Challenge.

OG, on the other hand, is a team chalked full of talent that burst onto the scene just a few months ago. They assembled a very legit team lead by the most coveted IGL of 2019, Aleksib. Alongside the big brain Finn, they brought in players capable of superstar performances in valde, ISSAA and mantuu as well as some veteran leadership with NBK.

On paper, I would say OG are one of the more talented teams at the tournament, but they are so early on in their development that I just don’t see them being able to finish it off in London. They definitely have what it takes to make a run pretty deep, but when all is said and done I think mousesports will be adding yet another piece of hardware to their ever-growing trophy case.

Pick: mousesports (+160)
