Team Liquid’s Rocky Road

It’s been an up and down road for Team Liquid ever since they picked up an entirely new roster in October of 2019. Their best performance was a 5th/6th place finish at DreamLeague Season 13 where they picked up wins over Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere and TNC Predator. It’s not a team that you would currently give elite status, but in the small pool of six teams, Team Liquid is a threat to make it into the finals.

Team Liquid was unable to qualify for ESL One Los Angeles but that’s not necessarily a great way to judge their abilities. The European qualifier was loaded with tough teams such as Team Secret and Ninjas in Pyjamas. OG Seed was also a part of this qualifier but they fell well short of making it to L.A. Don’t expect OG Seed to play a factor in this one.

Evil Geniuses: The Heavy Favorites

It’s no surprise that Evil Geniuses are favored to win it all here. Based on recent results, EG is the most competitive team at Summit and should soar to the finals. EG was one game away from beating Team Secret at DreamLeague Season 13 but they had to settle for second.

On top of that, during the ESL One Los Angeles North American qualifiers, EG was barely tested. They only dropped one game throughout the entire tournament, and come into Summit as the hottest team.

Fnatic’s International Struggles

Fnatic might not have the prestige that Evil Geniuses currently have, but they’re a very strong team out of Southeast Asia. They claimed one of the qualifying spots for ESL One LA out of the SEA region and did so over Team Adroit.

Internationally, Fnatic has struggled to crack into the top 8 of recent tournaments. They dropped out of The International and EPICENTER in 13-16th and followed it up with 9-12th placings at MDL Chengdu and DreamLeague Season 13. Fnatic might be competing for second as they’d be hard-pressed to challenge EG.

Cloud9 Debuts a New Roster

The wildcard of the tournament is none other than Cloud9. In January, C9 announced their foray back into DOTA2. Just a couple of months in, the team has already benched a couple of members and added Ace, Sneyking and EternaLEnVy. DOTA Summit 12 will be their first tournament playing together so there’s really no information to go off of. Stick with some of the proven quantities rather than betting on C9.

South America’s Representative

Thunder Predator is an interesting team. All five members of the team are from Peru and they’re the lone South American representative at Summit. They also qualified for ESL One Los Angeles by beating beastcoast and Pain Gaming. This team is not an easy out, but at the end of the day, it’ll likely be a three-horse race with EG leading the charge.

Picks: To Win – Evil Geniuses (-140)

To Reach the Finals – Evil Geniuses (-300) , Fnatic (+160)
