Through five holes of Saturday’s round at the Honda Classic, the tournament was well in hand for second round leader Aaron Wise as he built up a commanding six stroke edge. However, Wise dropped seven shots coming into the clubhouse, allowing everyone back into it, including Matt Jones, who has one PGA Tour victory (2014 Houston Open.)

If you were to place a bet on the 40-year-old Aussie to win outright at the start of the week, you’d be sitting pretty right now, as he faced long odds as a +8500 underdog. He grabbed the first round lead with a course record tying 9-under, 61 and has hung around to open up a three shot cushion.

With Holes 15 through 17 swallowing up a bevy of golf balls, no lead is safe on the ‘bear trap’ and there are plenty of golfers ready to pounce should Jones falter.

Read on to see the updated odds and the best bets for Sunday’s final round.

Matt Jones Searching for Second Win

Jones has to be shocked that he holds such a commanding three shot edge heading into Sunday’s final round given that Aaron Wise looked to be in complete control early on the front nine Saturday. Jones is first in strokes gained tee-to-green for the week, but he has some rather strange stats for other strokes gained categories.

Jones is T-55 in driving accuracy, T-38 in greens in regulation and 40th in SG: putting, which doesn’t exactly inspire a ton of confidence heading into the final day for a golfer in his 40’s who has only won once.

His +110 odds to win outright are super low for a player that doesn’t have a ton of prior success to draw from, meaning he doesn’t sport juicy odds to wager on.

Best Live Value Picks for The Honda Classic

  1. J.B. Holmes (+1200): Apart from J.B. Holmes the top six players on the leaderboard have a combined three PGA Tour victories (Matt Jones, Aaron Wise, C.T. Pan all have one). Holmes has won five tournaments, making his odds very enticing given that he’s in a tie for second. Second in SG: tee-to-green, third around the green, seventh approaching the green and T-2 in birdies for the tournament.
  2. Keegan Bradley (+2700): Four-time winner Keegan Bradley has been on the cusp of getting back into the winner’s circle, as he was two back heading into Sunday two events ago at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He’s made the most birdies, is fourth in SG: off the tee and fifth tee-to-green this week. Most importantly, for a player who struggles mightily on the greens (206th in SG: putting this season), he’s a respectable T-34th in putts per green in regulation through 54 holes./li>
