  • Two of the top-five in the world are competing with Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau +800 co-favorites to win
  • We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious and provided the best value bets below

The final tune-up on the PGA Tour calendar before next week’s PGA Championship sees a strong field competing at the AT&T Byron Nelson. This tournament has moved around in recent years with the 2018 and 2019 versions being held at Trinity Forest Golf Club. There was no event last year due to COVID-19, and this time it’ll be at TPC Craig Ranch for the very first time.

Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are co-favorites at a track that hosted the 2008 and 2012 Korn Ferry Tour Championship. Dustin Johnson was slated to compete, but he withdrew from the tournament Monday. Last week we were all over Rory McIlroy to win the Wells Fargo Championship due to his dominance at Quail Hollow Club, but this week will be more challenging at a new venue.

With this being the final tournament before the second major of the season, this event is boasting one of its deepest fields in recent years. That should lead to a wide open affair in the Lone Star State as Sung Kang returns as defending champion.

Scheffler Poised for Breakthrough Victory

Scottie Scheffler will be playing at something of a home game this week, having been born in Dallas and attending UT in Austin. He’s come close to earning that maiden PGA Tour victory the last couple of years, most notably losing in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play final to Billy Horschel in March.

Seven of his last nine tournaments have resulted in a top-30 finish or better, highlighted by four top-eight showings. He’s 14th in birdie average and 15th in strokes gained off-the-tee this season which will bode well this week. In his last 36 rounds on tour, he’s been solid in many strokes gained categories.

Scheffler’s Strokes Gained Stats In Last 36 Rounds on PGA Tour

Around-the-green Off-the-tee Total Tee-to-green Ball Striking Short Game Putting
7 8 8 9 18 18 51

Scheffler has gained strokes tee-to-green in his last six measured events, and he continues to put himself in the mix more often than not. With there being bigger names competing at this championship, his odds are very enticing at +2200, where he’ll have the fans on his side as he attempts to get into the winner’s circle for the first time in his PGA Tour career.

2021 AT&T Byron Nelson Best Value Picks

  1. Aaron Wise (+7000): We were high on him last week as a huge sleeper, and he didn’t disappoint as he placed in a tie for ninth. Won this tournament in 2018, and he’s eighth in strokes gained tee-to-green in his last 36 rounds. Hits a ton of greens, ranking seventh on the season in GIR.
  2. Keith Mitchell (+8500): Keith Mitchell was the 54-hole leader at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, and he was right in the thick of things on the back nine before Rory McIlroy pulled away. Just two events before that he was T-4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
  3. Scott Piercy (+17500): If you’re looking for a long shot deep dive with potential value for a top-ten bet, Scott Piercy is a strong option. At the Wells Fargo Championship, was tied for the lead on Saturday before a tough back nine dropped him down the board, where he eventually settled for a T-11. Two years ago at this tournament, he finished in a tie for second, going all 72 holes without making a bogey.
