While the world’s best players will be teeing it up across the pond at the Open Championship this week, the best of the rest will battle it out at the Barbasol Championship. In 2018, the tournament moved to the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, KY. It became the first regular PGA Tour event in the state in 59 years.

The Barbasol Championship wasn’t held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It returns to the schedule this year and 2019 champion Jim Herman is in the field.

However, it’s Like List, Charl Schwartzel and Seamus Power that oddsmakers are establishing as the +2000 co-favorites to win the tournament.

Schwartzel is one of three past major champions in the field. He’s joined by Jason Dufner and John Daly. Daly is playing in his third PGA Tour event of the year and is at odds of +100000.

He’s on the List

List comes into the Barbasol Championship off a T4 at the John Deere Classic. He was leading the tournament after two rounds. He’s picked up four top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season.

List is consistent off the tee. He’s 11th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.660) and seventh in driving distance (313.2).

This is a tournament where scoring in the mid-20s under par will be required for victory. List is 40th in greens in regulation (67.63%), 57th in birdies (3.84) and 12th in eagles per hole (103.8).

He’s Got the Power

One of these weeks, Seamus Power is going to seal the deal. He finished T8 at the John Deere Classic.

Power’s last five starts have produced three top-10 finishes and another two among the top 20. He was T8 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and T9 in the AT&T Byron Nelson in May. The Irish player has made the cut in eight consecutive tournaments.

Power is also 123rd in the FedEx Cup standings. With three weeks left in the PGA Tour’s regular season, he’ll need to maintain consistent performance to ensure a top-125 placing and a spot in postseason play.

2021 Barbasol Championship Best Value Picks

  1. Richy Werenski (+3300): Werchenski finished T2 at the 2018 Barbasol Championship. He posted rounds of 66-66-68-66 to end up one shot back of winner Troy Merritt. He was fourth in the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year and has broken 70 in five of his past seven rounds.
  2. Mito Pereira (+5000): It’s a big week for Korn Ferry Tour players to get into the field of a PGA Tour event with so many top players in England for the Open Championship. Chilean Pereira earned his way on to the PGA Tour after posting three Korn Ferry Tour victories this season. He made his first PGA Tour cut last week at the John Deere Classic. Pereira was T34 and shot a trio of 68s.
  3. Sam Ryder (+7000): It’s not been going well of late for Ryder. He’s either missed the cut or finished outside the top 50 in each of his last nine tournaments. However, at #132 in the FedEx Cup rankings, he needs a result and has a history of producing them here. In 2018, Ryder ended up T7 in the Barbasol Championship. He was -19 for the tourney. That included a pair of 68s and a third-round 63.
