  • The Honda Classic from PGA National, in Palm Beach Gardens, FL tees off Thursday, March 18th
  • Daniel Berger is the +1100 favorite over Sungjae Im
  • We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious and provided the best value bets below

One week after Justin Thomas authored up a furious weekend rally en route to the Players Championship title, the PGA Tour heads four hours down the road to the Honda Classic. We were all over JT heading into the week for our third tournament winning pick in the last four events.

With so many of the top players competing in the last four events, this is the one that many have decided to skip. Just three of the top 20 in the world are teeing it up, headed by Daniel Berger, defending champion Sungjae Im and Lee Westwood – who has been runner-up the last two tournaments.

This is a gruelling test of golf at Jack Nicklaus designed PGA National, with the infamous ‘bear trap’ of holes 15 through 17 that swallow up many errant shots in a watery abyss. Eight of the last ten champions have seen a winning score be in the single digits under par.

Lee Westwood Out for Revenge

47-year-old Lee Westwood has been oh-so-close to winning that elusive big championship in the United States, taking leads into the final round at both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship, only to be overtaken by 20-something uber talents Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas.

With a watered down field, Westwood has a prime opportunity to close out a victory at a tournament he finished T-4 in last year. It’s a course that he thrives on, with ball striking at an absolute premium as many water hazards and penal rough challenge the players.

Lee Westwood’s Strokes Gained Rankings In Last 24 Rounds at PGA National

Total Tee-to-green Ball Striking Off-the-tee Approach Short Game Putting
1 1 2 3 3 25 17

This will be the four straight week Westwood is competing. In the last two weeks he’s gained a whopping 20 combined shots on the field in strokes gained tee-to-green. For an older golfer, his stamina will be put to the test, but with his stellar recent play dovetailing beautifully with his great record around this track (four top-10’s), his value at +2000 is still very palpable.

2021 Honda Classic Best Value Picks

  1. Rickie Fowler (+4500): Though Rickie Fowler’s game isn’t up to his normal standards, he’s had some great finishes at this venue, winning in 2017, runner-up in 2019 along with T-6 and T-7 results in 2012 and 2016. In last 36 rounds at this championship, Fowler is first in strokes gained off the tee, second in total strokes gained, fourth tee-to-green and sixth in ball striking.
  2. Wyndham Clark (+5000): The 54-hole leader in 2019, Wyndham Clark has been T-7 and T-11 the last two years at this tournament. First in total strokes gained those two years, second in SG: short game and putting. T-8 three starts ago at the Genesis Invitational and earlier in the season was a runner-up at the Bermuda Championship.
  3. Doug Ghim (+6000): The 24-year-old was right in the mix through three days at the Players Championship in a tie for third before a tough Sunday dropped him down the board. Gained over seven shots on the field tee-to-green. Made five of last six cuts with nothing worse than T-37 in those events he was around for the weekend. 25th in SG: approaching the green on the campaign.
