47-year-old Stewart Cink has had a career resurgence in the 2020-21 season, having already won the Safeway Open earlier in the campaign. Now, he’s five shots clear of the field at this week’s RBC Heritage, which is the largest 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour this season. His three round total of 18-under par also sets a tournament record.
Coming into the event, Cink was not one of the top favorites to win outright, as he had super long +15000 odds to claim the title. Cink Has Strangehold on Tournament
Before winning the Safeway Open towards the end of 2020, Stewart Cink hadn’t won on the PGA Tour since stealing the Claret Jug from Tom Watson at the 2009 Open Championship. Having that victory in Napa under his belt this season will be a huge boost heading into Sunday, since he won’t be battling for his first win in twelve years and questioning whether he could get over the finish line for the first time in over a decade.

Most importantly, he’s been striking the ball beautifully through 54 holes, as he’s hit all but ten greens, ranking T-2 for the week. He’s also fourth in putts per green in regulation. The only potential question mark heading into Sunday is his driving accuracy, as he’s only hit eleven of 28 fairways in the last two days.

As the odds and leaderboard suggest, Collin Morikawa should be the one player standing in his way of claiming the title. Morikawa birdied four of the last six holes Saturday to get in the final group. Had Cink not won the Safeway Open, it would be easier to see him struggling to win the RBC Heritage, but his lead seems very insurmountable.
