  • There’s a prop bet on how often US President Donald Trump will tweet on Kentucky Derby day
  • The total is set at 6.5
  • Trump attended the 1999 Kentucky Derby

In 1969, Richard Nixon was the only sitting US President to ever attend a Kentucky Derby, although the President currently sitting in the White House has also been to the race. Donald Trump and his then-girlfriend (and now wife) Melania were among the crowd of 151,051 at the 1999 Run for the Roses watching Charismatic win the race.

However, Trump has not offered any indication that he’s much of a horse racing fan. All of which might make a prop wager on total Trump tweets on Derby day initially appear a bit puzzling.

Number of Donald Trump Tweets During Kentucky Derby Day

How Many Times Will Trump Tweet on Derby Day? Odds
Over 6.5 -120
Under 6-5 -120

Keep in mind this bet is about total Trump tweets on Derby day and not Trump tweets about the Derby.

Saturdays Are Alright for Tweeting

Spring has sprung and Trump’s thumbs have sprung into action. Maybe it’s the warmer weather, perhaps it’s the blooming of the flowers. It could be the April showers that kept him off the golf course. Whatever the case, Saturdays in April saw Trump launch a tweet storm on Twitter.

According to TrumpTwitterArchive.com, the Donald fired off a total of 70 tweets on Saturdays last month. That’s an average of 17.5 tweets per day. He sent out a high of 21 tweets on April 20th.

March wasn’t as busy for Trump. His Saturday tweet total that month was just 50. On March 23rd, he didn’t tweet at all. Still, his monthly average was 12.5 tweets per Saturday, which is well above the total established.

Trump Prefers Ballcaps to Derbys

If the wager was on total Trump Kentucky Derby tweets, the under would be the easy play. Even though he’s attended the race, the President has displayed little passion for the equine set during his days in office, or even prior to serving in the White House.

The only time Trump has ever directly tweeted about the Kentucky Derby it was during his campaign to win the Presidency. The tweet was disparaging to the race, and naturally, designed to pump up his own tires.

Others have been happy to connect Trump to the race via Twitter, though.

On Derby day in 2017, Trump tweeted 17 times. Last year on Derby day, he tweeted once.

Looks Like a Sure Thing

They say that there’s no such thing as a sure thing in horse racing. They also say never look a gift horse in the mouth. And yet, this total Trump tweets on Derby day looks to be both.

He’s gone over the 6.5 total the past four Saturdays and on seven of the last nine Saturdays.

The over play certainly appears to be a sure thing, and a gift as well.

Pick: Over 6.5 (-120)
