  • There are 14 games on the MLB schedule for Monday, April 12th
  • Season record: 13-17: -$426 loss (based on $100 wagered per unit)
  • Some wagering advice for Monday’s games can be found below

The 14-game Major League Baseball schedule on Monday includes what could be an awkward homecoming.

The Tigers visit the Astros at 8:10 pm ET at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

It will mark first-year Detroit manager AJ Hinch’ first visit to the Houston since being fired by the Astros in 2020 in the wake of their sign-stealing scandal. Hinch, who led the Astros to the lone World Series title in franchise history in 2017, was also suspended one year by Major League Baseball.

At -250, the Astros are the biggest favorites of the day as they will pitch Zack Greinke (1-0, 1.38) against Casey Mize (0-0, 2.25).

April 12 MLB Picks

Matchup Pick and Odds at DraftKings Units Risked
Marlins vs Braves Braves -175 1 unit
Giants vs Reds Reds +106 1 unit
Red Sox vs Twins Over 9 (-121) 1 unit

Odds as of April 12th.

Pick 1: Braves (-175)

The Atlanta Braves will go with Huascar Ynoa (0-0, 0.00) at home against the Miami Marlins and Sandy Alcantara (0-1, 1.50) at 7:20 p.m. at Truist Park.

This line might seem off since Ynoa is considered a more of a spot starter and Alcantara is considered the Marlins’ ace. However, the 22-year-old Ynoa impressed last Wednesday when he pitched five shutout innings while starting the second game of a doubleheader against the Nationals in Washington.

Braves manager Brian Snitker is giving Ynoa another opportunity after he allowed just two hits and struck out five.

Alcantara has been outstanding in his two starts this season. He has given up just two earned runs and six hits in 12 innings with 17 strikeouts and four walks. Alcantara also struck out 10 in his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Yet Alcantara has no wins because the Marlins were shutout on opening day, then scored just two runs in his second outing. Miami is 28th in the majors with an average of 3.00 runs scored a game.

Look for the Marlins’ offensive woes to continue against Ynoa, who might just be an emerging star.

Pick 2: Reds (+106)

The Cincinnati Reds send left-hander Wade Miley (1-0, 0.00) to the mound against the Giants and Aaron Sanchez (0-0, 1.80) at 9:45 pm at Oracle Park.

I faded Miley against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his first start of the season last week and that proved to be a mistake. He threw six shutout innings in the Reds’ 14-1 rout.

Miley showed that his injury woes from last season are behind him. He looked more like the pitcher who went 14-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 33 starts for the Astros in 2019.

Sanchez had a strong initial outing last week when he held the San Diego Padres to one run in five innings in a no-decision. He missed all last season while recovering from shoulder surgery.

The Reds’ offense was finally cooled off Sunday when they were blanked 7-0 by the Arizona Diamondbacks as Luke Weaver took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. However, Cincinnati leads the majors with 7.33 runs a game.

And I’m not going to fade Miley a second time, especially as an underdog.

Pick 3: Red Sox-Twins Over 9 (-121)

The Red Sox’s offense is rolling as Boston heads into Minneapolis to open a series against the Minnesota Twins at 2:10 p.m. at Target Field. On Sunday, the Red Sox beat the Orioles 14-9 at Baltimore behind J.D. Martinez’s three home runs.

The Red Sox are on a six-game winning streak and have scored at least six runs in each one since getting swept at home in three games by the Orioles to open the season. Boston’s 6.44 runs a game are second in MLB.

Martinez is hitting .472 with five home runs and 16 RBIs through eight games. By comparison, he went deep just seven times in 54 games last season.

The pitching matchup is pair of lefties with the Red Sox’ Martin Perez (0-0, 5.40) opposing J.A. Happ (0-0, 2.25). However, this pick is predicated more on the Red Sox hitters than either team’s hurlers.
