  • There are 17 games on the MLB schedule for Tuesday, April 13th
  • Season record: 14-18: -$495 loss (based on $100 wagered per unit)
  • Some wagering advice for Tuesday’s games can be found below

A total of 17 games are packed into the Major League Baseball schedule for Tuesday, April 13th, including a pair of makeup doubleheaders.

The New York Mets will host the Philadelphia Phillies for a pair of games and the Seattle Mariners visit the Baltimore Orioles visit for a twinbill. The doubleheaders were necessitated by rainouts Monday night.

Marcus Stroman will take the mound for the Mets in the second game. He started Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field that was suspended because of rain in the first inning. Not long after the game was stopped, Stroman expressed his displeasure on social media about the Mets’ decision to even start the game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Trevor Bauer are the biggest favorites on Tuesday’s slate at -345. They host the Colorado Rockies and Antonio Senzatela at 10:10 p.m. ET at Dodger Stadium.

April 13 MLB Picks

Matchup Pick and Odds at DraftKings Units Risked
Cubs vs Brewers Brewers (-141) 1 unit
Padres vs Pirates Pirates (+200) 1 unit
Rangers vs Rays Under 7.5 (-103) 1 unit

Odds as of April 13th

Pick 1: Brewers (-141)

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Chicago Cubs at 7:40 p.m. with Brandon Woodruff (0-0, 2.45 ERA) pitching against Kyle Hendricks (0-1, 3.00).

Though he never seems to get his due, Woodruff has been one of the NL’s best pitchers in recent years. Since the start of the 2019 season, he has a 14-8 record with a 3.36 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 37 starts while striking out 10.8 and walking 2.2 per nine innings.

Woodruff was brilliant in his last outing, no-hitter the Cubs through six innings on just 56 pitches April 7th. He wound up allowing one hit in seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts and no walks, though he did not factor in the decision.

Opponents are hitting just .179 (7 of 39) against Woodruff this season.

While Woodruff was keeping the Cubs in check, Hendricks pitched six shutout innings in a no-decision. He surrendered four hits and one walk to go with six strikeouts.

The Brewers ended up winning 4-2 and have won five of their last six games. The Cubs have lost five of six and have generated five or fewer hits in seven of their 10 games this season.

Look for that trend to continue with Woodruff on the mound.

Pick 2: Pirates (+200)

Blake Snell (0-0, 1.86) will look for his first win in his third start for the San Diego Padres as he faces the Pirates and Chad Kuhl (0-1, 6.43) at 6:35 p.m. at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

While Snell is winless, he has pitched well for his new team after being acquired from the Tampa Bay in an offseason trade. The left-hander has allowed two runs in 9.2 innings in two regular-season starts after pitching 14.1 scoreless innings in the Cactus League.

Rays manager Kevin Cash was crucified by fans and the media from removing Snell in the sixth inning of the deciding Game 6 of their loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series last October. However, Snell’s durability is already becoming an issue with the Padres as he has lasted 4.2 and five innings in his starts.

Of course, Kuhl hasn’t been an innings eater either. He has worked a total of seven innings in his first two starts with much worse results than Snell, giving up seven runs – five earned – in seven innings.

Kuhl got roughed up for five runs in the first inning in his loss to the Cincinnati Reds last Wednesday. He then settled down to pitch three scoreless innings against the highest-scoring team in the major leagues.

That is just enough to make him an interesting play at these odds.

Pick 3: Rangers-Rays Under 7.5 (-103)

There was a grand total of one run scored Monday night, coming on a home run by Rays shortstop Willy Adames, when Tampa Bay beat the Texas Rangers in the opener of a four-game series at Tropicana Field.

Runs should be at a premium again Tuesday with Kyle Gibson (1-0, 7.11) starting for the Rangers against left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (0-1, 5.06).

Gibson was outstanding in his last outing as he pitched six shutout innings and struck out eight in beating the Toronto Blue Jays. That was a nice bounce back from getting knocked out in the first inning on opening day by the Kansas City Royals.

Yarbrough hasn’t been great this season. However, he is facing an offense that has been shut out in three of its last four games.
