NL West rivals will wrap up a four game series on Sunday night, with the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the San Francisco Giants at 10:08pm ET. Los Angeles has dominated the matchup of late — both in win/loss totals and run differential.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Over/Under Run Total
Los Angeles Dodgers -340 -1.5 (-178) Over 9 (-122)
San Francisco Giants +280 +1.5 (+150) Under 9 (+100)

Odds taken July 26.

Given the Dodgers’ dominance of the Giants so far this year, as was the case most of last year, it’s no surprise they’re such heavy moneyline favorites on the latest Dodgers vs Giants odds. Yes, the Giants took a 5-4 decision on Saturday, but that’s their first victory in seven matchups.

Missing Faces For The Giants

Part of the Giants’ dragging offense so far can be attributed to the injury-related absences of Evan Longoria (oblique) and Brandon Belt (heel). Both players finished in the top four on the team in home runs and RBIs last season.

San Francisco catcher Buster Posey, an All-Star in six of the past eight seasons, is also out of the lineup after opting out of the 2020 season.

Longoria and Belt, on the other hand, are both expected back by Thursday.

Frustration In Gamesmanship

On Saturday afternoon, only an hour and a half before their game, the Giants publicly released their lineup for that day’s game. That is much, much later than usual.

It took until midday Sunday for them to reveal their Sunday starter (Drew Smyly), which again, is much later than typical.

The competitive advantage of withholding this information appears to be marginal, though it might be poking the bear a little bit.

Perhaps the Giants are trying to do something to disrupt the Dodgers’ preparation. But with the amount of talent up and down the Dodgers’ lineup, I can’t imagine that will do very much.

Dodgers Career Stats vs Drew Smyly

Player AB HR RBI AVG.
Mookie Betts 17 1 1 .353
Justin Turner 2 0 0 .000
Cody Bellinger 0 0 0 .000
Max Muncy 1 0 0 .000
Kike Hernandez 3 0 0 .000
Joc Pederson 0 0 0 .000
Austin Barnes 0 0 0 .000
AJ Pollock 0 0 0 .000

Dodgers’ Depth On Display

It’s funny that the Dodgers added former MVP Mookie Betts in the offseason, and yet so far he has arguably been their worst offensive player.

Don’t fret, if you’re on the Mookie/LA hype train. There is loads of time for him to turn things around. But the fact that it hasn’t affected the Dodgers so far is a testament to the number of players they have who can make an impact.

Los Angeles has eight players with a .400-plus on-base percentage so far — and none of those players are Betts or reigning NL MVP Cody Bellinger!

From Max Muncy to Justin Turner to Corey Seager, there are plenty of bats with pop that are making the Giants pay.

That’s why, even with a little “gamesmanship,” there are just too many ways the Dodgers’ lineup can beat the Giants.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers, -340
