Miami vs Tampa Bay Probable Pitchers

Pablo Lopez (4-1, 1.57) will start for the Marlins against left-hander Shane McClanahan (3-2, 2.33). Both will be pitching on five days of rest.

Lopez vs McClanahan

Pablo Lopez

Shane McClanahan
4-1 Record 3-2
1.57 ERA 2.33
2.65 xERA 2.44

Lopez had his worst outing of the season last Wednesday when he lasted just three innings in a no-decision against the Washington Nationals at home. He gave up three runs, four hits and three walks while striking out two.

Lopez was having an outstanding season to that point.

Lopez has a 1-2 record against the Rays in his career with a 3.27 ERA in four starts. He has split two starts at Tropicana Field, where he has a 5.40 ERA.

On the road, Lopez has been dominant this season, going 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA. He is 4-1 with a 1.54 ERA in seven starts at night.

Ji-Man Choi is just 1 for 8 against Lopez with four strikeouts.

McClanahan is 2-0 in his last three starts, including beating the Detroit Tigers last Wednesday at home. He allowed one run on four hits in seven innings while striking out seven and walking none.

In his lone career start against the Marlins, McClanahan got the win last season when he pitched one-run ball over five innings at The Trop.

McClanahan is 2-2 with a 2.89 ERA in five starts at home in 2022. He has a 2-1 record and 2.74 ERA in four starts in night games. In the Cy Young odds, McClanahan is at +1000 in the American League and Lopez at +1200 in the National League.

Marlins vs Rays Betting Outlook

Jesus Aguilar, Brian Anderson and Jacob Stallings each had two hits, including a double, in Sunday’s win over the Braves.

Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. left the game with left hamstring tightness after exiting the previous night’s game when he was spiked in the same leg. He is questionable for Tuesday along with shortstop Miguel Rojas, who did not play Sunday because of left calf tightness.

Left fielder Jorge Soler should be back in the lineup after being rested Sunday.

Choi and Brett Phillips had three hits each for the Rays in a losing effort Sunday and Isaac Paredes hit a three-run home run.

Third baseman Yandy Diaz was removed from the game with a strained left shoulder and shortstop Wander Franco sat out the last two games in Baltimore with a tight right quadriceps. Both are questionable for the series opener.

The Rays also placed key reliever Andrew Kittridge on the injured list Sunday with low back tightness.

This marks the first meeting of the season between the teams. The Rays went 5-1 against the Marlins last season and are 14-2 in the series since the start of the 2019 season.

Marlins vs Rays Pick

This should be a low-scoring games as evidenced by the 6.5-run over/under. McClanahan’s stuff is just about as good as anyone in the major leagues and it’s hard to bet against him at home.

Prediction: Rays ML (-167)
