Philly enters Flushing Meadows coming off a controversial 7-6 victory against the Braves in Atlanta Sunday. Joe Girardi’s club was the benefactor of a disputed winning run scored by Alec Bohm. The third baseman was ruled safe on a Didi Gregorius sacrifice fly in the ninth, but replays showed it didn’t appear Bohm’s foot touched home plate. Nevertheless, Bryce Harper and Co. enter the series Tuesday as a slight underdogs in the Phillies vs Mets odds.
[promoted-sportsbook]Luis Rojas’ squad counters with Walker, who beat Philadelphia last September in his first career appearance against the franchise. He’s coming off a six-inning effort against the Fish last week where he allowed only two runs in a quality start in a game New York went on to win 3-2.
Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins is off to a hot start, posting a .306/.306/.639 slash line in the team’s first nine games to go along with a pair of home runs and five runs driven in. Gregorius leads the team with eight RBIs, while Harper has a team-best OPS of .965.
Walker will be challenged in this matchup.

With his velocity reaching the high-90s against Miami last week, Walker looked beyond solid in his Mets debut. As a member of the Blue Jays last season, the 28-year-old beat the Phillies 6-3 in a game that saw him go six innings. Walker struck out eight in the victory last season, while scattering four hits and only giving up one earned run and walking two.
Three Philly players have driven in runs against Walker: McCutchen, Harper and Gregorius. And, as noted above, Harper and Gregorius are off to solid starts in 2021.

But with the Mets alternating wins and losses over their first five games this season, the team is due for a win. With the more experienced pitcher on the bump on this one, the Mets have the advantage.

Perfect Tonic?
The Mets haven’t exactly set the world on fire in their first five games, posting only 16 runs. A big part of that underwhelming offensive performance so far is the slow start of Michael Conforto.
Sunday’s game against the Marlins was suspended — but Rojas dropped the talented outfielder from third to sixth in the batting order to shake things up. The 28-year-old is entering his last season before becoming eligible for free agency — and has thus far not played like he’s in a contract year — going 3-for-21 (.143) with zero homers and three RBIs. That could change Tuesday.
Michael Conforto has three hits against tonight's starter, Chase Anderson.

Conforto owns a paltry .231 average in 13 career at-bats against Anderson. But all three of his career knocks against the Philly start are dingers. Seeing Chase on the hill could be the perfect tonic to jump-start Scooter’s season.
Leadoff hitter Brandon Nimmo also has three career hits in six ABs against Anderson, including one long ball.
With the Mets appearing to have both the advantage on the mound and at the plate in this one, I’m fading the Phillies in the series opener.
The pick: Mets ML (+102)
