San Diego Padres pitcher Chris Paddack entered the majors with an electric fastball last year that turned a lot of heads, but he has struggled at times to maintain consistency in his second season.

He’ll have an opportunity to turn the page on Friday, Sept. 18th, on the road against the Seattle Mariners in a matchup that could be interesting for the underdogs. Here’s a look at that matchup, and several others that have their odds out early.

Odds as of Sept. 17th.

Pick 1: Rays Moneyline (-195) vs Orioles

Reasoning: Tale of two pitchers favors Tampa.

Tyler Glasnow hasn’t been his sharpest self lately for the Tampa Bay Rays, but he has been good enough to have a 3-1 record (and 4.78 ERA) in his past seven starts. More importantly, he is 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA against Baltimore in his career, including two meetings this season.

On the other side, Baltimore’s Alex Cobb is 0-4 in his past seven starts — and 0-3 in his past five against Tampa.

The Rays are losing the season series, 3-2, but have won the past two matchups.

Pick 2: Mariners Moneyline (+157) vs Padres

Reasoning: Padres have been pedestrian on the road.

The San Diego Padres are a playoff team this year and the Seattle Mariners are (almost certainly) not. But there’s some value in the underdog Mariners in this one.

Despite their stellar 32-19 record this season, San Diego is only 13-11 on the road. The Mariners, meanwhile, are just 22-27 this year — but 12-9 at home.

Looking closer, the pitching matchup is a bit concerning for the Padres. They start Chris Paddack, who is 1-4 with a 5.85 ERA in his past seven starts. That includes a loss to the Mariners last month, in which he allowed eight hits and six runs in just five innings.

A two-team parlay on the Rays and Mariners at -195 and +157, respectively, would pay out at +288.
