Two teams scuffling of late clash on Friday at Petco Park. The Colorado Rockies (44-59, 11-39 away) have lost five of their past six games after dropping the opener of their four-game weekend series to the San Diego Padres (60-45, 35-20 home).
The Padres, even with that 3-0 victory over the Rockies on Thursday are just 2-3 over their past five games. However, a little home cooking may be just what the doctor ordered for them. San Diego is 27-10 at home over the past 37 games. Meanwhile, the Rockies are a dismal 12-42 over their past 54 road games.
No wonder then that the Padres are being established as the -190 favorites in this game.

As his name is mentioned in trade talk, Rockies right-hander Jon Gray is unbeaten over his last six starts (2-0 with a 2.57 ERA). That includes a 3-1 win over the Padres in San Diego on July 11.
Overall, Gray is 1-2 with a 2.60 ERA against the Padres in three starts this season. He took the loss in a 7-0 setback at Petco Park on May 11. Gray has been hurt by his defense in his two losses to the Padres. He’s given up four unearned runs over those two setbacks.
The Rockies are still fielding interest in their fine pitcher Jon Gray, who’s a free agent after the season. But in something of a surprise, they may end up keeping him and giving him the qualifying offer. An option.

Gray is 1-4 with a 4.43 ERA on the road this season but that one win was in San Diego. He’s 11-6 with a 2.99 ERA in 24 career appearances against the Padres.
Rookie left-hander Weathers has started twice against the Rockies this season. Though he didn’t figure in either decision, the Padres lost both games. That includes Gray’s 3-1 triumph at San Diego on July 11.
Weathers owns a 1.80 ERA this season against the Rockies in five innings of work. Overall, he’s won his last two decisions and three out of his last four. The total has gone under in each of his last two starts.

Weathers came back from the IL and pitched four innings of two-hit shutout ball July 24 against the Miami Marlins. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last two appearances, covering six innings.

Rockies vs Padres Pick
Colorado has won a major-league baseball low 11 games away from home this season. Meanwhile, the Padres share the MLB lead in home victories with the Chicago White Sox. Each team owns 35 home-field wins.
That’s a lethal combination. Then, factor in the 2-10 record posted by the Rockies in their last 12 visits to Petco Park. It all adds up to a San Diego victory.
Pick: San Diego Padres (-190).
