The Chicago White Sox (58-39, 23-22 away) and Milwaukee Brewers (58-41, 29-23 home) finish a three-game set on Sunday at Miller Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM EST.
The Brew Crew will be looking for the sweep after two convincing victories. Milwaukee’s arms have been able to keep a solid White Sox offense relatively quiet, giving up just a pair of runs so far thanks to quality outings from Freddy Peralta and Corbin Burnes.

Probable Pitchers
The White Sox send their top dog to the mound in veteran right-hander Lance Lynn. The 34-year-old is in the midst of a career year, boasting a 9-3 record and 1.94 ERA, which is second in the major leagues behind only Kevin Gausman.

Last time out, Lynn diced the Minnesota Twins, going seven innings and surrendering just one run. The All-Star has undoubtedly been the leading catalyst in the Chicago rotation. He’s also walked just 30 batters in 97.2 innings of work, a testament to Lynn’s pinpoint command.
Having spent six seasons in St. Louis, he regularly faced the Brewers. While their lineup is certainly much different now, Lynn has a 2.20 ERA and 10-3 record in 20 appearances against Milwaukee.
Lynn vs Woodruff
9-3 | Record | 7-4 |
1.94 | ERA | 2.04 |
97.2 | Innings Pitched | 119 |
109 | SO | 137 |
30 | BB | 29 |
Brandon Woodruff has also been the ace of the Brewers staff in 2021, as you can see by his numbers. Top-five in the league in ERA is impressive in itself but then if you also factor in his strikeout to walk numbers, it’s understandable why the hard-throwing righty has enjoyed so much success.

Woodruff has allowed only two earned runs in as many outings as he walked away with a no-decision against the Reds on July 17th. Having played his entire five-year career in Milwaukee, Chicago isn’t a very familiar opponent for the 28-year-old. He’s faced them just once, but there is a combined 20 at-bats throughout the White Sox lineup versus Woodruff.
Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers
White Sox Batters | Batting Average vs Woodruff | Brewers Batters | Batting Average vs Lynn |
---|---|---|---|
Jose Abreu | .000 | Willy Adames | .167 |
Zack Collins | .000 | Jackie Bradley Jr. | .429 |
Leury Garcia | .000 | Avisail Garcia | .091 |
Brian Goodwin | .000 | Omar Narvaez | .231 |
Billy Hamilton | .000 | Jace Peterson | .500 |
Danny Mendick | .000 | Rowdy Tellez | .200 |
Yoan Moncada | .333 | Christian Yelich | .333 |
The White Sox have swung the bats extremely well all season. It’s a huge reason they’re currently one of the best teams in baseball and the AL Central leaders. But, Milwaukee’s fantastic staff has stumped them in this series. Chicago has stranded 13 runners on base in the first two games, despite racking up 11 hits. For a team that’s typically great at driving guys in, this is not ideal by any means.

Tim Anderson, who leads the Sox with a .304 average, has gone 0 for 8 with a pair of strikeouts as their leadoff hitter. In Saturday’s loss, they strung together five hits, but three of them were from left fielder Andrew Vaughn. Woodruff will be an extremely tough task, but Chicago’s lineup must be a lot more consistent in the series finale.
Milwaukee’s pitching has basically carried them to first place in the NL Central as they rank in the bottom of the league in all major offensive categories, but you wouldn’t believe it based on the last two contests. The Brew Crew scored six runs off the White Sox pen on Friday after Lucas Giolito exited then also tagged Carlos Rodon for four runs on Saturday, although just two were earned.

Nonetheless, it’s a step in the right direction. Rowdy Tellez has proved to be a brilliant addition after coming over from the Blue Jays, hitting .500 in six games. The 26-year-old went deep twice in Saturday’s win as well. In fact, Milwaukee’s offense has been revived since the All-Star break, slashing .276. Prior to the festivities in Denver? The Brewers were hitting a dismal .220.
White Sox vs Brewers Prediction
We have a true pitcher’s duel on our hands. Lynn and Woodruff are two of the finest in the game right now, which means runs will likely be at a minimum. The White Sox offense is too talented to go another game without generating something, though. I don’t think it will be a lot, but Lynn will keep the Brewers quiet enough for his team to grab a victory here.
Pick: Chicago White Sox (+130), Under 7.5 Runs (-110)
