  • An interim heavyweight title fight headlines UFC 265 in Houston, Texas on August 7th, 2021
  • Derrick Lewis is the UFC’s all-time leader in KO’s, but will he add another?
  • Aside from the betting line, here are a handful of props that hold value

The UFC returns to Houston, Texas in front of a sold-out crowd at the Toyota Center on August 7, 2021. The event was supposed to see Francis Ngannou defend his heavyweight title for the first time in a rematch against Derrick Lewis. However, the promotion and Ngannou couldn’t come to terms on a date, so the UFC turned to Ciryl Gane to face Lewis for the interim title. There are some props being offered for UFC 265 that hold great value through total rounds, goes the distance, and method of victory props.

We’ve already broken down the full UFC 265 card and found some value on some fighters including, an underdog pick. Let’s take a look at the props list below.

Kenney vs Yadong 2.4 -235 +180

All odds as of August 5

Luque vs Chiesa Over 2.5 Rounds

Vicente Luque vs Michael Chiesa is a crucial fight for the welterweight division, and I think this fight hits the over.

Although Luque is someone that goes out there and gets the finish, this matchup will force him to be more patient and not force anything. Chiesa is a great grappler, and in his last three fights, he went the distance, including going five rounds last time out. He likes to hold his opponents down as he is more of a positional over-submission kind of grappler. Luque also has an underrated ground game which could cause some fits for Chiesa.

On the feet, Chiesa also has a good chin, and I don’t think Luque will be able to knock him out early. Instead, I lean this fight going the distance or possibly a late finish with a minute or so to go to hit the over.

Pick: Luque-Chiesa Over 2.5 rounds (-150)

UFC 265 Props – Fight Goes The Distance Odds

Matchup Yes Odds No Odds
Lewis vs Gane +150 -200
Aldo vs Munhoz -175 +130
Luque vs Chiesa -120 -110
Torres vs Hill -360 +250
Kenney vs Yadong -190 +140

Aldo vs Munhoz Goes The Distance

In the co-main event, a key bantamweight bout happens as Jose Aldo and Pedro Munhoz throw down but I like the fight to reach the judge’s scorecards.

Since Aldo dropped down to bantamweight, he has gone the distance in two of his three fights, but the fight he was finished in, it was in the fifth round so had it been a three-round fight which this it, it would’ve gone the distance. The former featherweight king has also gone the three rounds in his last four fights. Munhoz, meanwhile, has gone the distance in his last three fights, and when he won inside the distance, it was against Cody Garbrandt and Bryan Caraway, who have been known to have weak chins.

Both Aldo and Munhoz are super durable that I doubt either man will be able to get the finish. I personally think this should be above -200, so to get it at -175 presents value.

Pick: Aldo-Munhoz Goes The Distance (-175)

Gane Wins By KO/TKO/DQ

I love Ciryl Gane in this spot as he is such a technical striker. I don’t think Lewis will be able to land the big shot that knocks him out. On the feet, he’ll be able to chop the legs down and use his leg kicks to hurt Lewis to the body as well.

I also expect Gane to try and take him down and land some big ground and pound. Eventually, I think the damage will catch up to Lewis, and Gane will get the TKO win. However, I’d also lay some money on Gane by submission as we saw Lewis tap against Daniel Cormier and Gane has a good ground game. Gane should finish this fight, and no matter if Gane TKO’s him or submits him, you’ll be up money.

Pick: Gane by KO/TKO/DQ (+130)
