The Dallas Mavericks have a tremendous challenge this Sunday when they take on the San Antonio Spurs in game one of the first round NBA playoffs, at 1 PM ET at the AT&T Center.

The Mavs lost all four games in the season series against the Spurs; it hasn’t been much of a rivalry lately.

“It doesn’t really matter what everyone else says or thinks,” 12-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki matter-of-factly said following the Mavs’ Friday practice. “I figured (NBA analyst and former Spur) Bruce Bowen would pick the Spurs. We know we haven’t really played well against them the last couple of outings, especially this year. We haven’t played well in their building down there, so we’re preparing and we want to play our best game that we’ve played this year against them. I think we’ve had some good outings on the road against other teams, but we haven’t put it together down there yet. So, you know, we’re working hard and trying to be ready for our best game against these guys yet.”

The Spurs were the best team in the second half of the season, even recording a franchise record 19 wins in a row.  However, it seems like all they have done is prepared for the playoffs.

The NBA game odds have the Spurs as 9.5 point favorites in the spread. San Antonio has won nine of the last 10 games in the series against Dallas and has covered the spread in seven of the last 10.
