Joel Embiid is on track to play when the Boston Celtics visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. The star big man missed the 76ers previous game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday with pain in his right knee.

The Celtics won’t be so lucky as they will not get Jayson Tatum back after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. This will be the third straight game Tatum has missed due to the virus.

Boston has owned Philadelphia in this series winning the last five meetings between the clubs. This time around the 76ers are 5.5 point favorites and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Jaylen Brown Can Ball

No player has benefited more from the Celtic’s injury/COVID-19 issues this season than Jaylen Brown. Kemba Walker just returned to the lineup on a minute restriction. Jayson Tatum has been out for the last two games with COVID-19. Those absences have led to a career-high usage rate for Brown and he is taking advantage of the opportunity.

The Celtics should come out ready tonight after getting embarrassed by the Knicks the last time they took the floor. They’ve scored at least 107 points in every game following a loss this season, and tonight should be no different. Being up against former coach Doc Rivers could play a role as well.

The 76ers represent a pace up spot for the Celtics, and Brown should be the one that benefits the most. Philadelphia currently ranks fourth in the NBA in possessions per game, while Boston is 22nd. Playing slow will not be an option for the Celtics tonight, which will benefit Brown the most of any Boston player.

Fast break points are where Brown has flourished this season. He ranks fourth in the NBA in the metric averaging 4.7 per game on the season. That could come into play tonight given that no team in the NBA gives up more fast break points per game than the 76ers. If Brown can get a few easy buckets, he should fly over this number.

The Pick: Jaylen Brown Over 24.5 points (-110)

Jaylen Does Everything Well

Brown is not just a scorer, and he has been used as such all season. Although he is averaging the most field goal attempts, as well as the highest field goal percentage, and three-point percentage of his career, there is more to his game. He is also averaging almost twice as many assists per 36 minutes this season than his previous career best.

Only three teams in the NBA allow more assists per field goals made than the 76ers. At the moment, Brown is averaging 5.5 per 100 possessions this season. He has had at least three assists in each of his last six games, which should continue tonight. The odds on this bet are very high at -170 but for good reason as this could be the last time bettors see Brown’s assists number below 3.5

The Pick: Jaylen Brown Over 2.5 Assists (-170)
