Pacers Missing Haliburton Badly

Basketball is a team sport, but there is no question the absence of a key player can hurt. Just ask Indiana. Since Haliburton went on the shelf with an injury, they haven’t won a game. During that span, the Pacers were blown out by the likes of Milwaukee, Memphis, Oklahoma City, and Denver. Unfortunately, Haliburton is still a ways off a return too, which is tough news.

On Saturday, Rick Carlisle’s squad lost a close one to the shorthanded Phoenix Suns, who were without Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton, and Devin Booker. Indy played better than in past contests, but they failed to hit clutch shots in the final period and lock down defensively.

Promising rookie Bennedict Mathurin led the charge with 23 points, while Buddy Hield scored 22 and collected eight boards. TJ McConnell, who is one of the guys trying to fill in for Haliburton, had an absolute night, posting a stat line of 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. However, the Pacers shot just 38% from the field and 35% from deep. For Tuesday, guard Andrew Nembhard is questionable with an illness. If he doesn’t suit up, it’s just another hit to the backcourt.

Chicago Flourishing Lately

Overall, it’s been an underwhelming campaign for the Bulls, currently sitting in a play-in spot in the East. DeRozan and Zach LaVine aren’t playing great alongside each other but as of late, Chicago is trending upwards. They’ve won three in a row and LaVine in particular is balling out of his mind in January, averaging just under 30 points per night, quieting the trade rumors for the time being.

It was DeRozan who did the most damage on Monday evening though, dropping 26 on Trae Young and the Hawks. LaVine also added 20 as four of the five starters all finished in double-figures, giving Billy Donovan a ton of balance throughout the lineup.

While the Bulls didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, they capitalized off some sloppy play from Atlanta, who committed 18 turnovers. Chicago translated those mistakes into 25 points. Sitting just three games back of the sixth-place Miami Heat, there is absolutely no reason for this team to throw in the towel just yet. the postseason is still a possibility and beating the Pacers here would be a big step in the right direction. Indy is just a half-game above them in the standings.

Bulls vs Pacers Prediction

Chicago is on fire right now and well, Indiana is not. I expect the Bulls to take this one and keep their win streak alive. The Pacers’ struggles sans Haliburton will continue.

Pick: Bulls moneyline -115
