Considering Jaylen Brown was missing, it was a very impressive performance from Brad Stevens’ team against LA on Friday. Kawhi and the Clips have been on fire lately, but without PG, they lacked a spark. Nevertheless, Jayson Tatum’s 34-point performance overshadowed Leonard, with Kemba Walker also returning to the lineup and dropping 24.

The Celtics capitalized off the Clippers’ mistakes, collecting 26 points off their turnovers. It was actually a very gritty performance from Boston, trailing by 11 points at halftime. The third quarter proved to be crucial, as they outscored Los Angeles 38-20 while draining eight threes and taking the lead for good.

Their efficiency from downtown played a huge factor in the win, converting a total of 16 three-pointers throughout this contest. Payton Pritchard’s presence in the second unit was also key after missing time with an MCL sprain. The former Oregon standout has been a pleasant surprise for Boston this season, emerging as a spectacular shooter sporting a 50/40/90 clip.

Just two wins in their last five games aren’t great by any means, but beating one of the best all-around teams in the NBA will surely give the C’s a confidence boost heading into this matchup with the Suns. With Marcus Smart also out for a prolonged amount of time, Stevens’ squad will need to dig deep and get the most out of their entire lineup.

Paul Finding His Scoring Touch

There was no questioning what Chris Paul could bring to Phoenix. Top-notch playmaking, leadership, and the ability to score at a relatively high clip. But, through his first 15 games, the veteran guard had over 20 points just twice. With Devin Booker missing time at the end of January, Paul stepped up heavily. He’s averaging 26 points over his last six appearances, including a 34, 29, and 32-point performance. That’s all while still dishing out 8.5 assists per game.

Paul has been an important factor in the Suns’ hot streak. Monty Williams’ team secured yet another victory over the Pistons on Friday evening, with Booker and Paul leading the way. They simply just outplayed Detroit, with five players dropping 11 points or more.

With Dario Saric still out and Jae Crowder battling a foot injury, Williams inserted Frank Kaminsky into the starting lineup. The former Charlotte Hornet actually fared well, contributing 15 points and giving the Suns frontcourt a more physical feel alongside big man Deandre Ayton.

Despite the resurgence lately, Phoenix is actually scoring just 109.9 points per night, which is 21st in the association. However, thanks to their strong defense, it hasn’t really hurt them. The Suns are sixth in the league in defensive rating and sit in the top-four with just 107.5 points allowed.

If Booker can get back to last year’s offensive prowess, paired alongside Paul and Ayton, this team is going to have no issue making some noise in the playoffs.

Best Bet

Both of these teams are 12-9 ATS this season. So in this category alone, there isn’t really any clear pick. But I really like how Phoenix is playing lately. Booker has looked solid since returning from an injury, while CP3 is at an All-Star level currently.

Yes, the Celtics have Tatum and Walker, among other key guys in their rotation. But they’re also without Brown, who is their second-best scorer. With the Suns on a tear right now, I believe they’re going to pull out a victory. Sunday’s game will also be the first time fans are allowed in the Talking Stick Resort Arena since last March. It may not seem like an important thing, but there’s definitely going to be an incentive for Phoenix to perform well here.
