With Kawhi Leonard unlikely to play, the Los Angeles Clippers are underdogs for their Wednesday matchup with the Phoenix Suns. The Clips are only two games back in the loss column from Phoenix as the two teams continue their battle for the two seed. With Donovan Mitchell injured, both teams will be eyeing the Utah Jazz atop the conference, too.
The Clips are without Serge Ibaka and Patrick Beverley still. Phoenix has both Jae Crowder and Dario Saric listed as questionable on their latest injury report.

Suns Come Off Tough Road Trip
Returning home for this game, the Suns are in the midst of a rough part of the schedule. Utah is up next for Monty Williams’ team, and they’ve only just finished a brutal Eastern Conference roadtrip. A comeback win over the Knicks rounded off the East trip nicely, particularly after consecutive losses to Boston and Brooklyn.

It doesn’t get much easier for Phoenix, however. Williams has been fortunate with injuries throughout this season, but not having Crowder or Saric will be a real blow for Wednesday’s game. The Suns can put themselves in a commanding position if they get a win over the Clippers.
A loss, though, will leave them very vulnerable to dropping to three, opening up the possibility of a first-round series with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
There were points where fatigue looked like an issue during the roadtrip. The offense had moments where it looked short of ideas. Chris Paul was majestic throughout, however, and he bailed his team out in clutch time against the Knicks.

Devin Booker hasn’t been at his best. Phoenix will hope a big night against the Knicks broke his slump. The Suns are still in the top 10 in offense over the last couple of weeks, but without Booker at his lethal best, they could find it hard to keep pace with this versatile Clippers offense. Ty Lue’s team have the highest offensive rating in the Association since the All-Star break.
Clippers Hope to Bounce Back
The offense wasn’t at its brilliant best last time out, however. The Clips had won 11 of 12 going into their game with the New Orleans Pelicans. They were unable to stay close to the Pels, who have one of the worst defenses in the NBA. New Orleans rained threes, shooting almost 52% from beyond the arc as a team.

Perhaps this was a blip and a random hot-shooting night for New Orleans. There were times when the defensive effort just wasn’t there from the Clips, however, and they will be made to pay if that resurfaces against these Suns. Phoenix has shooters up and down the roster, and they rank ninth in three-point percentage on the season.
The Clippers have won both games against the Suns so far this season. Phoenix shot just 25% from deep when the teams met earlier this month. It was an excellent Clippers performance, but it was also inspired by Leonard and George.
Rajon Rondo was the only other Clipper to reach double figures in the game. George was ice-cold against the Pels – they need the All-Star wing to put up big numbers on Wednesday night.

The shooting of Marcus Morris is something to watch out for, too. Morris is at almost 49% from three-point range this month, but he struggled from the field last time out. A bounce back game is to be expected.
Clips Keep It Close
Following the loss a couple of days ago, it’s hard to be confident enough to back the Clippers’ moneyline. Recent history suggests they’re a good bet to cover here, though. They haven’t been underdogs very often (only nine times on the season), but they have a strong record when they have been, covering six times.

Phoenix has lost three of six, their worst run since January. The win over the Knicks was impressive, but losses to the Nets and Celtics showed they are not quite at peak level right now. Being without Saric and/or Crowder would be a major blow, too.
This contest for the top three seeds is going to go the wire. It’ll get even more interesting if the Clippers take the W on Wednesday.
