George is Red Hot

The Clippers shot a smoking 62.5% (50-of-80) from the field Sunday night as they rallied past the Detroit Pistons 131-124 as 13-point favorites. Los Angeles outscored the East’s last-placed Pistons 37-24 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Paul George had his third straight 30-point game as he finished with 32 points and nine assists despite playing with a toe injury.

Marcus Morris led the Clippers with a season-high 33 points, which was five off the 10-year veteran’s career best. Morris made 13-of-18 field goal attempts and connected on 6-of 8-three-pointers as the Clippers made 57.7% (15-of-26) of their attempts from long range.

He also knocked down the 1,000th three-pointer of his career.

The Clippers played without Kawhi Leonard, who was rested as the Clippers were playing for the third time in four nights. Leonard is averaging 26 points a game, which is 11th in the NBA.

Ivica Zubac had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double. That is the most double-doubles Zubac has had in a season in his four-year career. Zubac also added a career-high seven assists.

Seven players scored in double figures for the Clippers, who had a season-high 35 assists to help offset 16 turnovers.

Serge Ibaka (back) missed his 15th straight game and will not make the three-game road trip.

LeVert Fully Recovered

Caris Levert had his best game yet for the Pacers on Sunday since returning to action March 13 following kidney surgery. He scored 34 points on 13-of-20 shooting and added three steals in a 132-125 victory over the Grizzlies at Memphis as 3.5-point underdogs.

It was LaVert’s second-highest scoring output of the season.

Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis both just missed triple-doubles. Brodgon finished with 29 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. Sabonis had 18 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists.

It was the 36th double-double for Sabonis and Brodgon’s fourth. Brodgon also matched a season high in assists and drained five threes.

The Pacers shot 52.5% (52-of-99) as they led wire-to-wire. Six players had double-digit point totals in helping Indiana score at least 132 points for the third time in four games.

Blowout Last Time

The Clippers have won four straight games against the Pacers, including a 129-96 rout Jan. 17 at Los Angeles in the teams’ only meeting so far this season. The Clippers easily covered the eight-point spread.

George, Morris and Luke Kennard all scored 20 points for the Clippers, who shot 55.2% (48-of-87) overall and 48.7% (19-of-39) from long range. Los Angeles also held a 52-39 rebounding edge.

The Pacers were led by Doug McDermott’s 21 points that included five three-pointers. Sabonis added 19 points and 14 rebounds, Brodgon scored 16 points and dished eight assists and Justin Holiday chipped in with 15 points.

This game should obviously be closer but, even though the Pacers’ offense is running hot, the better team will again prevail.

The Pick: Clippers -1.5 (-110)
