Odds taken Feb. 12 from FanDuel

Westbrook’s Time to Shine

Bradley Beal, the NBA’s leading scorer, will be held out for rest for the first time this season when the Washington Wizards visit the New York Knicks.

Someone is going to have the opportunity to make up for the 32.8 points a game Beal is averaging. Russell Westbrook seems like a logical candidate.

Westbrook is second on the team in scoring with a 19.7 average. Wizards coach Scott Brooks has been mindful of keeping the 32-year-old guard fresh as Westbrook has played in just 15 of 22 games this season.

While Westbrook’s average is his lowest since 2010-11, his second year in the NBA, that is a nod primarily to the offense running through Beal.

Westbrook can still fill up the basket as evidenced by his 41-point outburst against the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 31. He has scored at least 20 points in eight of 15 games.

The Knicks rank fifth in the league in defensive rating, which gives reason for pause. However, look for Westbrook to have a big night on the big stage of Madison Square Garden.

  • Pick: Russell Westbrook over 25.5 points (-118)

Mitchell Makes Jazz Go

Donovan Mitchell is the leading scorer on the team with the best record in the NBA. He is averaging 24.0 points for the Jazz, who are 20-5 going into their home game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Mitchell is coming off a 36-point performance in a win over the visiting Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. That matched his season high.

It also marked the third time in five games in February in which Mitchell has scored at least 30 points and his average this month is 28.6. He has reached 30 points in six of 23 games this season and had at least 20 points on 17 occasions.

The Bucks are eighth in the league in defensive rating but the oddsmaker peg the over/under at 233 points in this game. Thus, expect a fast pace and plenty of points for Mitchell.

Pick: Donovan Mitchell over 26.5 points (-116)
