At the start of the playoffs, a LeBron James versus Steph Curry playoff series seemed like a pipe dream. LA needed to get through the Play-In Tournament and then upset the two seed Memphis, while Golden State had to knock off number three seed Sacramento.

Shockingly, all of those things happened. Now, basketball fans are rewarded with likely the final postseason battled between the two future Hall of Famers.

Game 1 goes down Tuesday in the Bay Area, and online sportsbooks are leaning towards the Warriors in the NBA odds.

Lakers vs Warriors Betting Notes

The Lakers posted the West’s best defensive rating in the opening round, holding the Grizzlies to 102.8 points per 100 possessions. Anthony Davis was a beast in the paint, averaging four blocks per contest, while LA limited Memphis to 40.2% from the field.

LeBron and AD get all the headlines offensively, and rightfully so, but the Lakers will need sustained production from their role players to beat the Warriors. D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura each averaged at least 15 points per game, with Hachimura shooting 52% from three.

Speaking of triples, that’s one area where LeBron was abysmal against the Grizz. He shot only 20% from beyond the arc in Round 1 on 6.8 attempts per contest.

On the Warriors side, they shot the seventh lowest percentage in the opening round, but were bailed out by Curry – especially in Game 7. Curry dropped 50 points on the Kings in the series finale, the most in a Game 7 in NBA history.

He averaged 33.7 points per outing in Round 1, shooting 49% from the field and 38% from three. The Dubs also got 21 points from Klay Thompson per contest, and 18 from Andrew Wiggins, but they’ll need more from Jordan Poole.

The 23-year-old was instant offense in last year’s playoffs, but the opening round was a major disappointment. He averaged just 12 points per game, on 34% shooting. Given he takes 11 shots per outing, including five threes, Poole will need to be more efficient to help lighten the load on Curry.

As for the Warriors unsung hero, it’s time to give Kevon Looney his due. He averaged 15 rebounds per game, and completely neutralized Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis. Looney will now battle AD down low, and that matchup will have a major impact on Tuesday’s result and beyond.

Lakers vs Warriors Predictions

LA knocking out Memphis may be considered an upset, but the Lakers were one of the top teams in the NBA down the stretch. They closed the season with nine wins in their final 11 contests. So far in the postseason, they’re 5-2 in seven games.

They posted the third best net rating in Round 1, and finally have the depth to complement LeBron and AD after multiple years or having their stars play with a collection of stiffs.

The Warriors meanwhile, are not the same team as last year’s Championship squad. The fire still burns, but the team is less efficient and far less imposing on offense. Curry can still get white-hot, but there is a serious lack of depth beyond their top-five.

LA was 3-1 versus Golden State in the regular season, winning all three of those games as underdogs. They covered in four of six outings against the Grizzlies, while the Warriors covered as greater than 2-point favorites just once versus Sacramento.

Picks: LA Lakers +4.5 (-110), LeBron James Under 2.5 Threes (-135), Rui Hachimura Over 0.5 Threes (-160)
