The Grizzlies staved off elimination in Game 5 versus the Lakers, and will look to do so again in Game 6 on Friday as the series shifts back to LA.

Memphis trails the best-of-seven series 3-2, and will need to accomplish something they haven’t done all season in order for their playoff run to continue. That’s win on the road as underdogs, as the Lakers have been pegged as favorites in the NBA odds.

Memphis vs Los Angeles Injury Report

The Lakers injury report is full of big names as of Thursday night, but none are expected to miss Game 6. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are both probable with foot injuries, while Dennis Schroder’s sore Achilles isn’t expected to keep him out of action.

James has been a major disappointment in this series, as we’ll discuss, while Davis has been a stat stuffing monster.

On the Grizzlies side, big men Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke are lost for the season due to knee and Achilles injuries respectively, while guard Luke Kennard (shoulder) is questionable.

Grizzlies vs Lakers Betting Splits

Los Angeles is a perfect 3-0 at home during the playoffs so far, winning each game by at least six points. Bettors are expecting the Lakers home success to continue, as they’re betting LA to cover 4.5 points on 58% of the ATS tickets.

Total wise, under 219.5 is getting plenty of attention from big money bettors. Just 27% of all over/under wagers are on the under, but those bets represent 45% of the total handle.

Grizzlies vs Lakers Betting Notes

Three of the past four games of this series have fallen below 219 points, including Game 5. Memphis’ defense stymied the Lakers, James in particular, as the Grizzlies rolled 116-99.

Desmond Bane guaranteed a Memphis win in Game 5, and he backed it up. Bane poured in a game-high 33 points, while Ja Morant added 31. Bane is on record saying the Grizz will also take Game 6, despite Memphis’ 0-16 record this season as road ‘dogs.

The Grizzlies held the Lakers to 40% from the field and 26% from three, while LeBron missed 12 of his 17 shots. James finished with just 15 points, and is 3-for-28 from beyond the arc since Game 1.

AD was the only reason LA even had a pulse in Game 5, as he splashed 31 points and grabbed a playoff career-high 19 rebounds. Davis has been feasting on the glass in the absence of both Adams and Clarke, averaging 14 rebounds per night.

The Lakers may have laid an egg in Game 5, but they’ve been a different team at home during the postseason. LA has a 100.5 defensive rating in their own building so far, the best mark of any of the West’s playoff teams.

As for Memphis on the road, they boast the lowest offensive rating of any Western Conference team in the postseason, averaging 11 points fewer as visitors than in their own building.

Grizzlies vs Lakers Predictions

One way to improve the Grizzlies atrocious offensive rating would be to get Dillon Brooks off the court. Brooks is an above average defender who does a great job getting under the other team’s skin, but he’s killing his own team at the offensive end.

Brooks was 3-of-15 in Game 5 from the field, and is shooting a woeful 30% in the series. To make matters worse, he’s taking 13.2 shots per game, opportunities that would be better suited for someone like Kennard, if he plays.

Memphis’ starting five has an offensive rating of 92.1 this series. In lineups where the rest of the starters are in place, but Kennard is substituted for Brooks, their offensive rating balloons to 154.2.

Needless to say we’re betting the under on Brooks’ points at 11.5. We’re also playing under on 219.5 points. Memphis owned the West’s third best defensive rating during the regular season, and we should expect an effort similar to the one they gave in Game 5 at that end of the court.

Yes, Davis has a big mismatch over their front court, but the Grizz have done a phenomenal job on LeBron and the rest of the Lakers. As for LA, its defense has been top notch all postseason, especially at home, which should help keep this contest a low-scoring affair.

Picks: Under 219.5 (-110), Dillon Brooks Under 11.5 Points (+100)
