LeBron James and the Lakers will take a shot at the NBA’s hottest team in the Utah Jazz Wednesday night at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In their last game, the Lakers were embarrassed at home 127-124 in overtime by the Washington Wizards, who currently sit 13th in the Eastern Conference.

The Jazz also played an Eastern Conference team in the Charlotte Hornets the last time they were in action. They had no problem taking care of the Hornets, 132-110.

The Lakers have dominated this series winning the last four meetings including a 116-108 in the last one back in August In this matchup, the Jazz are 8.5-point favorites and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Time to Turn Back the Clock

In his heyday, Marc Gasol would never have seen such low numbers on the prop board, but these are new days. Even though he is not the same player he once was, he is still worth a look in the prop market when he gets playing time.

Given the matchup tonight with Rudy Gobert, and the fact that the Lakers don’t have many other options, Gasol could be on the floor for more than 25 minutes.

Gasol doesn’t do much when he is out there but in his last three games, his usage has spiked to 14.2%. He has gone over 13.5 points plus rebounds and assists in all three of those games  as a result. He is not a threat to take a game over by any means, but he does produce well enough in all three categories to go over such a low number given the matchup tonight.

  • The Pick: Marc Gasol Over 13.5 Points + Assists + Rebounds (-115)

Jazz vs Lakers First Basket Odds

Player Odds
LeBron James (Lakers) +440
Rudy Gobert (Jazz) +550
Donovan Mitchell (Jazz) +550
Bojan Bogdanovic (Jazz) +700
Mike Conley (Jazz) +750
Kyle Kuzma (Lakers) +800
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (Lakers) +950
Marc Gasol (Lakers) +1200
Wesley Matthews (Lakers) +1300
Royce O’Neale (Jazz) +1500

Who Scores First?

In their last five games, the opposing center has scored the first basket against the Lakers three times, which would put Rudy Gobert in play. The issue is, in their last ten games, the first shot taken by the Jazz was either a three-pointer (seven games) or a Donovan Mitchell two-point jumper (three games).

Mitchell was playing point guard for the games in which he took the first shot, which could be why he was in position to do so.

Technically, if bettors wanted to bet the Jazz would score the first basket, they could get three of the five Jazz starters by betting Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley and Royce O’Neale and still profit. Although tying up capital on three separate first basket bets seems excessive.

The Jazz are highly likely to attempt a three-pointer with the first shot, assuming they get possession, and those three are the likely shooters. O’Neale is my favorite of the bunch given the odds and the fact that he has made the first basket in two of the last three games for the Jazz.

  • The Pick: Royce O’Neale (+1500)
