  • It’s the Sixers vs Hawks and Jazz vs Clippers Game 5’s on Wednesday June 16th
  • Both series are tied at 2-2 ahead of Game 5 with Utah and Philadelphia returning home
  • Read below for the latest player props and picks for tonight’s action

All four teams playing on Thursday are two wins away from the Conference Finals. The Clippers have once again come back from 2-0 down. The Sixers blew a big lead in Game 4 to let the Hawks tie up the series. This is where homecourt advantage can really matter, however, with the Jazz and 76ers getting to return to Utah and Philadelphia respectively for the pivotal Game 5.

Even with Joel Embiid having an historically bad second half in Game 4, the Sixers are favored by 6.5 points for Game 5. Philly has been a juggernaut at Wells Fargo Center. The books are less convinced by the Clippers and Jazz, a series which has followed homecourt so far.

The Clips are 2.5-point underdogs, though it appears that Utah will still be without All-Star point guard Mike Conley.

Odds as of June 16th

Seth Gets Good Looks

The Hawks defense has struggled to contain Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons in this series. Until the second half of Game 4, Clint Capela was unable to slow down Embiid. Simmons, when choosing to attack, has been too physical for Atlanta’s wings. Defensive attention has been focused on the All-Star duo.

This has allowed Seth Curry to get into the game. Curry is a solid secondary playmaker and one of the game’s best shooters. Whether creating his own look off the bounce or getting an open three after a double team on Embiid or Simmons, he has been a key part of Philly’s offense throughout this season. That has never been more evident than this series.

Curry has seemed to be on a hot shooting streak. According to his expected points on ShotQuality.com, he’s not been dramatically overperforming. Poor rotations have allowed Curry to get open looks. Many of his threes in this series have been good quality catch-and-shoot attempts.

The former Maverick has gone over 14.5 points in four of his last five games. He’s made three or more threes in those four games, too. There’s plenty of value to be found in Curry’s props for Wednesday’s game, either taking the over on the points or threes. Given his importance with Danny Green out injured, it could be worth a small parlay.

  • Pick: Seth Curry to score 15+ points and make 3+ threes (+122)

Jackson Goes Again

Reggie Jackson has taken after his namesake this postseason. Knocking down all manner of shots, Jackson has become an integral member of the Clippers, averaging 15 points per game in these playoffs. His numbers are even better on the road. With a 29-point outing in Game 2, Jackson’s scoring average away from Staples Center in this postseason soared to 18.8.

Some of this can be looked at as unsustainable shooting. Jackson was picked up on a minimum contract, and while he’s been a starter for much of his career, he wasn’t expected to have a major impact on the Clippers. What has followed has been an extraordinary story of taking his chances in the starting five and making improbable shots.

Much like Curry, Jackson has benefited from the defense being skewed towards his star teammates. His role is simplified compared to earlier in his career, and he frequently gets the chance to take open threes.

A quiet four-point night in Game 4 shows there’s reason for caution here. With Marcus Morris draining shots, Jackson’s role lessened. He’s still been a knockdown shooter in these playoffs, though, and looks good value on over 2.5 threes. Prior to Game 4, he had made three or more threes in nine straight games.

  • Pick: Reggie Jackson over 2.5 threes (-108)
