Odds as of June 8th

Young Leads the Way

I don’t think there is another player who’s stock has gone up more than Trae Young in this playoffs. First he was the villain in the Atlanta/New York series, antagonizing Knicks fans with his 40-foot bombs at Madison Square Garden.

Now, he’s on to Philadelphia where he is doing the exact same thing to 76ers fans.

Young is absolutely “the guy” in Atlanta. He can be expected to take 20+ shots in every game from here on out. With that kind of volume, points are likely to follow. In six playoff games so far, Young has surpassed 30 points in four of them. He was in the 20s in the other two.

What has played a role in the last three games is Young’s willingness to shoot the three-ball. In each of the last three games, Young has attempted at least 11 three-point attempts in each game. One game, he tossed up 14 threes. Three-balls makes can add up quickly and Trae can splash them.

At +140, Young is a good bet to drop another 30-burger tonight.

  • The Pick: Young OVER 29.5 Points (+140) * Alt Line

Mitchell Can Dish

Donovan Mitchell is a scorer. He scored at least 29 points in each of the last three games with the Memphis Grizzlies and he’s capable of dropping a 40-burger on any given night. One thing that bettors forget is that Mitchell can pass too. He’s been dropping sweet, sweet dimes all season long.

Tonight, the Jazz could be without the services of Mike Conley. If that happens, Donovan Mitchell will be asked to facilitate more than usual. In 11 games this season without Conley in the lineup, Mitchell recorded at least six assists in eight of them.

I would expect Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to harass Mitchell all series so he may be passing a little more anyway. We don’t necessarily need Conley to be out for this to hit but obviously it would help. At this price, Mitchell to record at least six assists seems like a good bet.

  • The Pick: Mitchell Over 5.5 assists (-110)
